Monday, August 29 Stewarton Win Subsidiary Final Stewarton put in a late entry to the Ayton Castle Tournament and came away thankful that they did. Ayton is the highest level tournament that Stewarton have ever entered and they were expecting to get well and truly beaten this weekend but were happy to enter to help out the hosts who had a late withdrawal from the tournament. Saturday pitched Stewarton yet again against Dalmahoy who had bolstered their team with Alastair Archibald for the tournament. The game was very tight throughout but a late goal in the dieing seconds of the match gave Stewarton a win. The second match was against Foreman Aviation who were playing with both their Argentine professionals. This match was again unexpectedly close and Stewarton had their chances. If they had converted two penalties they would have been the winners but it was not to be and Foreman Aviation went through to the final. On Sunday Stewarton were in the Subsidiary final against Perth. In the first chukka Stewarton's Hiro Suzuki and Jose Von Potobsky went for the same ball and ended up sliding into one another. This clash knocked out Hiro Suzuki who fell to the floor and was unable to play th rest of the game. James Douglas of Dalmahoy kindly volunteered to replace the injured Suzuki. The game then went all Stewarton's way giving Stewarton and easy win by 11-2. |
