Monday, August 1 IWPA Women's Nationals Stewarton ventured south last weekend to Ascot Park Polo Club to play the IWPA Women's Nationals. The team had been bolstered with -1 Eva Campos Reber who had come all the way from Spain, so it was a new line up that hit the field on Saturday morning. Stewarton came against Colliers CRE in the first game. The game went all Stewarton's way and they ran out the winners. The second game was different though, playing against Wild Things, Stewarton were bamboozled by the play of Wild Things number 4 who constantly came up with the ball and ran with it giving Wild Things an easy win. On Sunday, Stewarton were in the Subsidiary final and looked to have a chance against FHM. Unfortunately, the slow and sticky game frustated Stewarton who lost all their rythm and gave a win to a delighted FHM. Overall Stewarton had played well over the weekend but were just beaten by better teams on the day. Reaching the subsidiary final in the tournament was a considerable improvement on their last effort in the Arena Nationals. Karina Bowlby also received the Polo Quarterly most improved player award. All in all, the players enjoyed the weekend due to the impressive organisation and welcoming atmosphere of Ascot Park and will certainly be returning to Ascot Park to hopefully improve their record again. |
