Xplosion Take Home Finalist Trophy in 2006 Manassas Memorial Day Tournament!

The 11U Sterling Xplosion won two opening group play matches by slaughter rule, then faced the ever tough Mt. Vernon Mavericks for their final group play match, losing 5-0. With two wins and only 7 runs allowed, Xplosion qualified for one of the semifinal matches in their difficult division of twelve teams.

Both the semifinal and final were scheduled for Memorial Day. The Mavericks advanced in the 10:00 am game. While the Mavericks watched with anticipation, waiting to play whatever exhausted team managed to come out on top in the noon semifinal, Xplosion faced the Mazda Mets Blue under a blistering sun. Xplosion were down 3-2 going into the bottom of the 6th, but they pushed a run across the plate to force extra innings. It took three more innings before Xplosion prevailed, 4-3.

The final began after 3:00 pm - over an hour late. Both the Mavericks and the Xplosion put together some solid offensive innings, but the Mavericks' hitting proved too much; Xplosion had to settle for the second place trophies, losing 8-4.
