St. Edith CYO: Eagle News
St. Edith Fall Sports Update
Hello Eagle Nation!
This is a big time of year for the fall sports participants, and I want alert everyone to what has happened in the past couple of days.
Our boys varsity soccer team (head coach John Micallef) played two exciting games, and won both of them to clinch the division title. They will begin playoffs either Tuesday or Wednesday. We will alert you to the schedule, as soon as it is available.
The boys pulled out both victories in the same fashion. Behind for a good part of the second half, they rallied both times to score tying goals, and that a late goal to win the games. Very exciting wins!
The boys varsity 1 football team (head coach Mike Gatt) played its first round in the playoffs against Our Lady of Sorrows. The Eagles led by a strong hitting defense carried the day with a 28 to 8 victory. They will play the second round game on Sunday, October 18th at 3pm at Catholic Central High School. The Eagles opponents will be the Raiders of St. Regis.
The game against Sorrows, was played at Pontiac Notre Dame Prep, and at game time the conditions were cold and windy. The Eagles jumped out to two quick TDs, for a 14-0 lead. The Saints of OLS then made a little push to close the first half down 14 to 8.
But in the second half the Eagles controlled play, and made some big interceptions to pull away with two more TDs, for the final score of 28 to 8. Congratulations on a nice playoff win.
Our girls volleyball teams wrapped up the season, and the Varsity 2 team (head coach Dawn Schornack) finished with a victory to earn the division title. A great accomplishment. Their playoff schedule will be announced within the next 12 hours.

2009 Season Welcome - Steve Cooper AD
Hello to Eagle Nation,
This coming Saturday represents the beginning of a new year of activity for St. Edith CYO, and I hope as a parent or player, or observer that you are excited about the beginning of another year.
We are blessed in that our predecessors established a great program that offers great competition in a wide array of sports and is supported by some outstanding volunteers. On top of those gifts we are able to provide the kids with the use of great equipment and some of the best facilities available to amateur players.
With such a gift, comes a responsibility for all of us. So I ask you to commit yourself not just to the sport of your child but to the support of the program. Do your part to help, and know that your efforts are not only appreciated but very much needed. A lot of work goes into planning the events, such as the upcoming soccer and volleyball tournaments, plus a 4-way football scrimmage. The time spent on preparation by coordinators and coaches is an incredible commitment - and combined with our work as parents allows us to offer not only a great experience for the kids, but we create a community and an example for ourselves and our families that will influence our own children later in life.
I also want to remind you to please make sure that your children are enrolled for the upcoming religious education classes at your parish. Most parishes have already opened up registration, and you need to make sure that you have take care of this VERY IMPORTANT responsibility.
So enjoy the upcoming season, and please remember to pray, give thanks to God for the blessings he has bestowed upon us both individually and collectively. Though we all have some crosses to bear, we have been given much. I look forward to seeing you soon.
Sincerely,
Steve Cooper - AD
