St. Edith Eagles win a BIG soccer game. The varsity 1 boys beat St. Michael's in round 1 of this year's playoffs, and will play on Sunday at 3pm, at Cabrini HS vs U of D. The first win of the round was an exciting won, and took an overtime period and shootout, before the Eagles prevailed. If you can make, please join the team in their semi-final against U of D. The winner moves onto the championship game.

News of the Day - October 13, 2009

To all parents - playoffs are underway, please check out the Eagle News link with more information. We have three teams participating in fall playoffs.  The varsity 1 boys football team, won their first round game in this year's playoffs, and will play next Sunday at 3pm, at Catholic Central HS vs St. Regis.

As of this writing, we are still waiting for the playoff schedule for our two division winners. Congratulations to our Varsity Boys soccer team for winning the final seasonal game vs. St. Michaels. The victory gave the Eagles their first division title in seven years.  The Varsity 2 Volleyball team also won their final game to capture their division title as well. They will enter the playoffs this year, quite a feat for such a young team.

News of the Day - October 7, 2009

To all parents - Please recognize that at this time of year, Varsity 1 schedules for football, soccer and volleyball become more fluid. It is the result of a playoff system that changes based on whether you win or lose a game.

For soccer, once the playoffs begin, it will be more straightforward, and the same with volleyball. In short both of those sports will have a win or go home approach. Football is different. Our Varsity will play a game on Sunday, October 11th (opening playoff game), and if they win they play the following Sunday, October 18th. However, if they lose (which we sure hope doesn't happen), then they would STILL play a game, but on Saturday October 17th. So please bear with us, as they things unfold we will keep you posted. Thank you.

St. Edith Eagles - Our History:
Welcome to the St. Edith CYO web page. Members of the St. Edith Athletic Board created it as well as maintain it. We hope you enjoy your visit! If you have any comments, suggestions or concerns regarding our web page, feel free to contact the Athletic Director via email at stedithcyoad@yahoo.com

The St. Edith CYO Program began in 1982. Its growth over the years has been remarkable. It is unfortunate that we do not have records from its origin so that those individuals responsible for its growth could be thanked publicly. I'm sure however, that they would simply say, "no thanks are necessary, we did it for the same reason you're doing it today, THE KIDS!" CYO has always been about the kids and with God's Blessings, it always will be! Remember,
"CYO, Part of your life, All of your life!"

Please check the "A.D. Comments" and "Eagle News" menu items for updates and information.

TEAM SCHEDULES: St. Edith team schedules can be found by clicking on the individual sport at the top of this page and then selecting "schedule" on the left side of sport's page. Please bear with us, we are doing our best to keep this section as current as possible.

Football Banquet - October 25th

Hello Football Parents,

As is our tradition, we will wrap up our football festivities with a banquet, on this coming Sunday, October 25th. Due to the large quantity of people, we will have the banquet split into two groups.

The JV teams and Freshmen teams will have a banquet in the St. Edith Church Hall (see directions below), starting at 1pm. The banquet will be over by 3:30pm (could end sooner).

The Varsity teams will have a banquet in the St. Edith Church Hall starting at 4:30pm, and should be done by7pm (possibly sooner).

Food and drink will be served to all attendees. There is no cost for players or coaches, but we do request that each family pay $5 for the other family members (not players) that may come to the banquet. The $5 will be collected at the banquet (table at entry door), and we ask that you please help us make this go smoothly, for there will be over 200 people at the first session, and nearly as many at the second session.

The intent of this event is to give the children their letters and/or pins, and to celebrate their efforts and participation in the football season.

Karen Cooper and Dawn Schornack are working to organize the event, but the help of other parents will be much appreciated. We will need some parents to help have the food placed out on serving tables, and to make sure that drinks are served.  Please contact Karen at karencooper007@yahoo.com if you are willing and able to help work the event. There will not be any "work schedule" for this activity.

We have many children in the program, so we will work very hard to be efficient in this activity. The Church Hall is accessible from either a front/side door that is located south of the main church entrance, or via a back door. Please do not try and enter through the church or school doors, they are likely to be locked. You can park either in the main front lot, or there is some parking behind the building.

Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you on Sunday.
Sincerely,
Steve Cooper

St. Edith Fall Sports Update

Hello Eagle Nation!

This is a big time of year for the fall sports participants, and I want alert everyone to what has happened in the past couple of days.

Our boys varsity soccer team (head coach John Micallef) played two exciting games, and won both of them to clinch the division title. They will begin playoffs either Tuesday or Wednesday. We will alert you to the schedule, as soon as it is available.

The boys pulled out both victories in the same fashion. Behind for a good part of the second half, they rallied both times to score tying goals, and that a late goal to win the games. Very exciting wins!

The boys varsity 1 football team  (head coach Mike Gatt) played its first round in the playoffs against Our Lady of Sorrows. The Eagles led by a strong hitting defense carried the day with a 28 to 8 victory. They will play the second round game on Sunday, October 18th at 3pm at Catholic Central High School. The Eagles opponents will be the Raiders of St. Regis.

The game against Sorrows, was played at Pontiac Notre Dame Prep, and at game time the conditions were cold and windy. The Eagles jumped out to two quick TDs, for a 14-0 lead. The Saints of OLS then made a little push to close the first half down 14 to 8.

But in the second half the Eagles controlled play, and made some big interceptions to pull away with two more TDs, for the final score of 28 to 8. Congratulations on a nice playoff win.

Our girls volleyball teams wrapped up the season, and the Varsity 2 team (head coach Dawn Schornack) finished with a victory to earn the division title. A great accomplishment. Their playoff schedule will be announced within the next 12 hours.

2009 Season Welcome - Steve Cooper AD

Hello to Eagle Nation,

This coming Saturday represents the beginning of a new year of activity for St. Edith CYO, and I hope as a parent or player, or observer that you are excited about the beginning of another year.

We are blessed in that our predecessors established a great program that offers great competition in a wide array of sports and is supported by some outstanding volunteers. On top of those gifts we are able to provide the kids with the use of great equipment and some of the best facilities available to amateur players.

With such a gift, comes a responsibility for all of us. So I ask you to commit yourself not just to the sport of your child but to the support of the program. Do your part to help, and know that your efforts are not only appreciated but very much needed. A lot of work goes into planning the events, such as the upcoming soccer and volleyball tournaments, plus a 4-way football scrimmage. The time spent on preparation by coordinators and coaches is an incredible commitment - and combined with our work as parents allows us to offer not only a great experience for the kids, but we create a community and an example for ourselves and our families that will influence our own children later in life.

I also want to remind you to please make sure that your children are enrolled for the upcoming religious education classes at your parish. Most parishes have already opened up registration, and you need to make sure that you have take care of this VERY IMPORTANT responsibility.

So enjoy the upcoming season, and please remember to pray, give thanks to God for the blessings he has bestowed upon us both individually and collectively. Though we all have some crosses to bear, we have been given much. I look forward to seeing you soon.

Sincerely,

Steve Cooper - AD

4-Way Food Drive Thank You! A HUGE SUCCESS!

4-WAY FOOD DRIVE 2009
A HUGE SUCCESS THANKS TO EVERYONE!
Team up to beat hunger weekend
On behalf of St Christine’s Food Bank/Pantry, and volunteers of the 4-Way Food Drive, we thank all of our 4-Way participants that were so very generous during our 1st Annual 4-Way Food Drive weekend.  Thank you to the St. Edith CYO Board and our sponsors, the Michigan Youth Athletic Association, Busch’s Markets, and Capricorn Diversified Systems Inc.
Thank you to the hosting 4-Way teams St. Edith, St. Regis, St. Anne, and St. Joan of Arc for allowing us to be a part of your event (Thanks to locations of Catholic Central, DeLaSalle, and Country Day for their hospitality).  Thank you to all of the parents, players and coaches of all of the CYO teams that were involved over the 4-Way Food Drive Weekend. (Over 85 teams participated, and we thank them, and may God Bless everyone for their incredible generosity)
The exciting results are from all FOUR, 4-Way Scrimmage collections.
*An estimated 7,500-8,000 non perishable goods were collected along with over $1,000 in donations.  The donations will be used to buy more food for the food bank.
Great timing: Needless to say, the staff at St. Christine’s was stunned to see the first truckload of food, but was speechless when the next three truckloads came in.  During this tough economic time, their shelves of food were almost depleted.  We all saved some lives from a simple act of generosity, but the battle has just begun.  There are plans to create similar food drives collectively during Thanksgiving at Basketball Tourneys, starting with St. Edith & other locations near you. Stay tuned!
