STARZ Volleyball: Welcome
PURPOSE: The purpose of the Southern Indiana STARZ Volleyball Club is to form teams of female athletes with the goal of further developing already proven individual skills and knowledge that will benefit each athlete in their future middle school and high school seasons.
SIVC PHILOSOPHY: The club season runs from November to March. Our hope and intention is that all players and their families will have fun! While it is indeed the goal of the SIVC STARZ to field teams that are absolutely as competitive as possible, focusing solely on winning will NOT be done at the expense of our athletes having fun playing and developing skills and a positive attitude for their school volleyball seasons.
Players must have completed their previous school season in good standing with the exception where injury or illness prevented them from doing so. The SIVC STARZ is a "select team" chosen through a try-out process which occurs at the end of October/beginning of November. During the try-out, athletic skills are considered, but also, players must fit into the team's concept regarding attitude and chemistry which is decided by the coaching staff. A team of volleyball coaches will be gathered to run the try-out and rate athletes for team selection.
The SIVC STARZ will play in the most desirable tournaments available based on availability and travel costs. A combination of both one-day and two-day tournaments will be targeted.
PRACTICES: Practices will be held twice weekly at either Castle High School and/or the Warrick Education Center in Newburgh. All teams will be practicing at Castle High School Sunday nights and at Warrick Education Center on either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday nights.
CONFLICTING SPORTS & ACTIVITIES: The SIVC STARZ will cooperate with any conflicting SCHOOL athletic program such as basketball, softball, tennis or track or other SCHOOL PROGRAM that might affect a team member . It should be noted that SIVC practices and tournaments are priority over any other event such as other travel sports, parties, concerts, etc. Each selected team needs each team member's commitment at all practices and tournaments. Other than school activities only illnes or injury will be excused.
COMMITMENT: It is expected that volleyball will be the sport of focus. It is expected that you will commit to both the time and your teammates.
Attendance at practices is mandatory and attendance will be taken. A player needing to miss practice is expected to discuss it with their coach in advance.
Attendance at committed games is mandatory.
Tournament play could be affected by practice attendance, attitude and effort and is left to the discretion of the coaching staff. Again, aside from school-sponsored activities or sports with conflicting seasons, SIVC should be your priority.
No commitment or guarantees will be made in regard to playing time at tournaments.
COST: The cost of participation in the 2011-2012 Southern Indiana STARZ Volleyball Club season will remain at $750.00 per player. This includes cost of equipment, uniforms, bags, tournament fees, coaching fees, insurance, and gym fees. A position securing fee of $400.00 will be collected at the parent/player meeting in November. The remaining $350.00 will be due in January before the first tournament. No refunds will be given with the exception of a season ending illness or injury. In this case, a pro-rated refund will apply.
It is SIVC's full intent to offer the most value for your dollar and every attempt will be made to save cost without sacrificing the quality of instruction or experience. Travel costs are extra and will be handled individually. If necessary, players will need to arrange transportation with another parent to the tournament. Players may room together; however all parties involved should cover their fair share of the expenses. Hotel accomodations will be pre-arranged so that the team can stay together at one site. Reservations will be made to insure the best "family-valued" facility at a reasonable price. Generally, accommodations range from 75.00 to 95.00 per night.
