Head Coach, Scott Muscat has announced that former all-conference Spartan outfielder & Mets minor leaguer, Mike Sharpe (East Meadow, NY), has joined the coaching staff at St. Thomas. His primary responsibilities will be overseeing Long Island recruiting, and serving as the hitting coach and outfielders coach. "This looks to be a great fit for Sharpe and the progam," said  Muscat. "We are truly excited about having a player such as Sharpe return to STAC and share with our current players the knowledge of he game he's aquired over the last six years as a Spartan and a minor leaguer."

After being selected in the 35th round of 2005 MLB Draft by the NY Mets, Sharpe spent 1 1/2 seasons with New York before a broken arm in spring training derailed his professional career. At STAC, the four-year starter had a stellar senior year, hitting .374, with 49 hits, 44 RBIs, 10 doubles, 2 triples, 3 homeruns, 11 stolen bases, OB % of .467, and drew 22 walks while striking out only 8 times in 131 at-bats. He was chosen as a All-NYCAC outfielder for the second time in his career. He collected nearly 200 hits over his four-year stint with the Spartans and undoubtedly goes down as one of the most prolithic hitters in STAC Baseball history. Sharpe graduated from STAC in 2005 with a B.S. in Criminal Justice.

NYCAC Changes Name to East Coast Conference

ECC Logo
NEW YORK, June 13, 2006    The New York Collegiate Athletic Conference has changed its name to East Coast Conference and has unveiled new logos and trademarks, it was announced today by Edward J. Manetta, Commissioner, and Drew Bogner, Ph.D., President of Molloy College. The change takes effect on July 1. The East Coast Conference name better reflects our constituency and our collective vision for the future, said Manetta. The change also affords us the opportunity to make a bold statement about who we are and where we are going with the introduction of new logos and marketing initiatives. The conference has increased in stature and has spread out geographically in recent years, added Bogner, whose school was a founding member of the league in 1989. The Presidents Council is pleased to utilize the name East Coast Conference and associated symbols that reflect that growth.
