Important Information for Coaches

Coaching Certification:       All coaches head coaches must be appropriately certified, and we highly encourage all assistants to be as well.  U9- U10 must complete the Youth Module and all U11 and above must hold an E license.  Information about courses and registration can be found at

SoccerMaine Coaching Education.

Must Read for all Coaches:

Scarborough Soccer Club Coaches Handbook

SoccerMaine Fall Handbook

League Game Scheduling:            When the Fall Classic League schedule is published (about August 15th), all home games will be scheduled by the Club field scheduler. It is the Coach’s responsibility to communicate this information with the opposing coach.  Away games will be scheduled by the host club.  Host club will communicate time and location of requests.  We highly recommend that you confirm all games with coaches by the Wednesday before the game.

Friendly Scheduling:          Friendlies are played on Saturdays (with an occasional double header being scheduled on Sunday).  Coaches wishing to secure field space for a friendly must contact Field Coordinator (Robin Thurston) at  At no time should anyone contact Community Services directly for field space, or use any unauthorized location for a game.

Referee Assigning:       All referee assignments must be done by our Club Referee Assignor.  Coaches may not secure their own referees for a game, nor should they ever play a League game or Friendly without a certified referee team.

Referee Payment:      Home team coaches are responsible for paying the referees cash at the field.  Please collect the opposing team’s half of the referee money prior to the start of the game.  Please make sure to have correct change to be able to pay the referees (this is particularly important at the U13/U14 level, as it is difficult to divide fifties and twenties up into the correct amounts for each referee).
