JEFF SOULAGES
It is with great sadness that I announce that Jeff Soulages, a AAA coach for the Red Sox, and an enthusiastic supporter of the San Ramon Valley Little League, passed away last Thursday at the age of 51. Jeff suffered a heart attack the prior Tuesday while preparing his son, Bret, and the Red Sox for their afternoon game. He ultimately never regained consciousness.
For those that never had the opportunity to know Jeff, he was truly one of the nicest people you could ever meet. Calm, patient, positive, and caring are just a few of the adjectives used to describe Jeff ‘s personality. SRVLL was fortunate to have him as a part of its coaching staff for the last several years as the game of baseball was truly a passion of Jeff’s. He played baseball throughout his youth and co-founded the Armanino & McKenna softball team, where he was an accountant and partner with the firm. Additionally, Jeff’s oldest son, Jeffrey, received a scholarship to pitch at Cal-State Fullerton. Jeff loved going to his games during the season and followed him with a passion during the summer as he traveled throughout the U.S. to play ball. In recent years, of course, Jeff shifted his focus to sharing his love for the game with his youngest son, Bret. Bret started playing baseball almost literally from birth. As one of his first words spoken was “baitaball,” it was clear early on that Bret would share both his dad’s and big brother’s enthusiasm for the game.
It was important to Jeff to actively share in the lives of his children, and he made this a priority via his participation in their sporting activities. Not only has he always coached Bret’s teams (where he consistently partnered with his good buddy, Terry Carey), he also displayed his versatility by acting as soccer coach for his daughter, Nicole. Clearly, Jeff’s proudest moments were spent watching and playing with his three kids, as well as sharing in their development with his loving wife, Kristie. Jeff was an example of great sportsmanship and gentle compassion and he will be missed by his SRVLL family, as well as the Alamo and Danville community at large.
Sincerely,
Harry Lewis
