Why do we not keep season standings?
The league is set up to provide enjoyment and instruction for the participants. If standings are kept coaches tend to coach differently and suddenly girls are not playing as many positions as they should get to during the season.

How are the divisions set up?
Divisions are dependent upon several items: number of girls in an age group; number of coaches who volunteer within an age group; and skill levels of the girls in the age group.

The intent of SRSA is to provide an environment where the girls can excel, they can play with friends and play at a competitive level matching their skill. The divisions are therefore based upon skill and age factors. A small portion of any age may move between divisions.

The primary deciding factors in this process are 1) observations of all coaches in the respective division at the skills clinic; 2) assessment of the prior year's coach; and 3) input from parents on confidence level, maturity, drive, motivation, etc. of the player.

T-Ball is comprised of 5 and 6 year olds. About 40-50 percent of 6 year olds will play Rookies. The majority of 7 year olds play Rookies with 30-40 percent playing Minors B.

The Minors divisions represent our largest group by far. The objective is to have the majority of 8 year olds playing in Minors B (with some 7 and 9 year olds), the majority of 9 year olds playing Minors A (with some 8 and 10 year olds), and 10 year olds split between Minors A and Minors AA (with some 9 and 11 year olds in the latter group).

Majors is made up of 11 and 12 year olds (a few 10 and 13 year olds round out the division). And the Seniors are almost entirely 13 year olds (a handful of 12 year olds and 14-15 year olds are also included).

What rules does the league operate under
The SRSA is governed by the ASA organization. We have to follow the rules the ASA has set. There are several types of rules. 1) Rules of the game and 2) Rules of operation.

For rules of the game the ASA allows leagues to tailor the ASA rules to best suit their leagues. This allows for coach pitch, no walks, run limits etc. We modify the league rules every year to best suit the skills of the league

For operational rules we have 2 documents we follow, Rules and Regulations and our By-laws. Both documents can be found in the Handouts section of this web site.

How do we cancel a game
There is a document in the Handouts section, SRSA Coaches Manual that answers this question.

What is the SRSA Coaches Manual
This Manual is a mix of information. There are sections on who to contact for any type of issue, such as canceling games, rainouts, rescheduling, practice conflicts, parent conflicts etc. There are sections on All-Stars, sections on drills, and sections on techniques. This is a good source of information for coaches and parents alike.

How are the All-Stars and Coaches picked
This is covered in the Rules and Regulations Document found in the Handouts section. Basically coaches and players are choosen by a vote of the coaches who had players participating in that age group.

What do our fees pay for
Fees pay for items such as:
Uniforms, balls, insurance (of which there are 4 policies we need to carry), umpire fees, field maintenance (with city cuts we pay for dragging, adding dirt, grooming), major equipment such as pitching machines, minor equipment such as bats and catchers gear, printing expenses, clinics (a large portion goes for the many clinics we provide).....
