Following up on Scripps 10U Hawks great start of the all star season winning the Santee Bring On The heat Tournament, our 10U Hawks win the PQ Memorial Day Classic Tournament.
FIELD CONDITION'S If ever field closed signs are on the fields they are closed! Please subscribe to the SRSAfields user group above to recieve email notification every time the field status changes. Alternatively, check the league website before going to the fields, we try and post closures in a timely fashion. You may call the Rec center 538-8085 if you get to the fields and they appear good and signs are up. But, the bottom line, signs up, field closed. Those playing at Community, we don't have drag equipment there, parents, please take a rake and work the field before your game. Get email notification of field closures. Cage Reservations Batting Cage reservations can be made through the Cage Time link in the side bar. CP1 and SRHS practice field time is also to be reserved through the Cage Time calendar for time slots beginning March 24. All-Star elgibility March 31st is declaration day. If you play with a travel team you must either declare travel or all-star by March 31st. No player who wants to play all-stars can play or practice with a travel team after March 31st. This includes casual pickup games, batting cage practices, etc. Last year 4 Penninsula girls played 1 casual travel game on a Sunday and were all declared inelgible for all-stars. No all-star team may have more than 4 girls who played travel ball.
HELMETS: If you do not have a helmet and are considering purchasing one please consider getting one with a face guard (see picture). Both Schutt and Rawlings have face guards available for their helmets. The league will be changing their helmets over the next couple of years to the facemask type. Schutt can be purchased at http://www.softball.com. Consider the mask built for softball which has a larger opening. The league highly recommends face gaurds for all divisions above T-ball. BATS: Girl should be able to hold the bat straight out from her body without the end dropping down. The length should be from the floor to just above the wrist. T-ball - minor B's should use 16 to 18 oz. Minors A,AA should be 17-19 oz. Bat should be at least -9 rated and maybe -11. The rating is length minus weight, a 30 inch, 20 oz bat would be a -10. GLOVES. Larger and Leather! Most girls should be using a 12 inch or larger and it must be soft! Plastic does not hold the ball well. The common mistake for Rookies is the glove is just too small. Store a ball in the glove when not in use to maintain the pocket. CLEATS. Softball or Soccer cleats are acceptable for softball. A softball shoe has a toe cleat so soccer does not allow softball cleats, so if purchasing for both sports, buy soccer. GOOD LUCK, PARENTS!! Adding photos to a web site Please reduce the size and resolution of photos before adding them to your team web site. There is a great freeware program that will reduce size and resolution painlessly. We are only allowed so much disk space so it is important that photos take up less than 10K each. If you are a coach or team parent you are invited to create your "team" page where you can keep your team information. We have multiple links to interesting softball sites, Scripps Ranch sites, Scripps Ranch league sites, and links to other girls softball leagues. Mira Mesa's site is very good. As always we are looking for a volunteer who could help us maintain our site. |
