****2012 SEASON****
February 2012
Dear Spring Valley Little League Families,
Welcome to the 2012 season! This is an exciting time for Spring Valley Little League as we begin our 52nd season of Little League Baseball. Your 2012 Board of Directors has been busy preparing for what we anticipate will be a fun season for all. Our T-ball, Cap and Minor Division teams will be wearing an MLB authentic Padres uniform this season courtesy of the San Diego Padres uniform donation program. The money saved by not having to purchase uniforms for our lower divisions provided an opportunity to upgrade the uniform quality for our Major, Junior and Senior Division teams. Our kids will look extra sharp on game day this season!
We recently received some very exciting news from the San Diego County Sports Council that construction is going to begin for a facilities renovation plan for the Sports Complex. This renovation will include an upgrade of all the baseball fields with artificial turf replacing the grass, upgrading the area surrounding the fields with new playground equipment and remodeled bathroom facilities. This project has been discussed amongst our youth sports community for some time now, so we are pleased that the work will finally begin. Upon completion, the newly improved Sports Complex will be one of the finest youth baseball facilities in the county with fields that children from the Spring Valley Community will play baseball on proudly.
That being said, because of ongoing construction, we will not be able to house SVLL activities at the Sports Complex this season. The La Mesa Spring Valley School District, in particular Mr. Michael Allmann, Principal of La Presa Middle School, has graciously offered to allow us to use La Presa Middle School as our home for the 2012 season. Some of you may remember that this is where SVLL existed during earlier years before our move to the Sports Complex. How ironic is that!
Since first hearing the news that the Sports Complex would not be available for use this season, your Board of Directors has been very busy organizing, planning, and preparing for our transition to La Presa Middle School. We are confident, with your assistance, that the goal of ensuring a fun and safe environment for our children to play baseball will be achieved. Not affording the opportunity for our children to play organized youth baseball this season was NEVER an option.
So, how can you help? You can help by volunteering your talent and time. There are many ways you can support the success of your child’s league. Teams will need Scorekeepers, Team Parents, Umpires, Coaches or Managers; our Snack Bar (yes, we will have a Snack Bar) will need volunteers. The fields at La Presa Middle School need continued work in preparation of Opening Day and the games to follow. We are committed to keeping the costs associated with moving to La Presa Middle School at a minimum, so your volunteer help is necessary to make that happen.
On behalf of your 2012 Spring Valley Little League Board of Directors, I want to thank you for choosing to participate this year. Please do not hesitate to contact myself or any board member should you have any suggestions or concerns.
Let’s play ball,
Pete Gonzales
President, Spring Valley Little League
