EVALUATION/TRY-OUT INFORMATION FOR TRAVEL TEAMS IS POSTED (10-9-2009)
Springfield Athletic Association Boys Lacrosse Program
Program Description
The Springfield Youth Lacrosse Program is designed to introduce boys in Kindergarten through 8th grade to the game of lacrosse by helping each boy learn and develop lacrosse skills while playing with and against boys of the same ability. Our focus is to teach the boys the fundamentals of the game and sportsmanship in a positive and fun environment.
Our goal is to teach the boys to enjoy the game and share in the same passion for lacrosse as the coaching staff. We hope that the lessons learned on the lacrosse filed will help the boys continue on to successful athletic and academic careers. Hopefully in the future, they will return to the lacrosse fields in their communities and “Pay It Forward” to the next generation of lacrosse players.
All players are required to be a member of the Springfield Athletic Association in order to participate in the lacrosse program. General registration for the SAA will be open in January. You can register on-line or in person at the Springfield Township building. Please visit the SAA website for details
Intramural Program

Travel Program
Open to boys in Third through Eighth Grades
All of the travel teams will play in the South Eastern Youth Lacrosse Association (SEPYLA). The teams are organized in the following divisions: A level is for 7th and 8th gradersB level is for 5th and 6th gradersC level is for 3rd and 4th graders. The A1 and B1 teams play against the some of the most competitive youth lacrosse teams in Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey; therefore, the boys trying out for these teams should be committed to playing lacrosse as their first Spring sport.
The A3, B2, and C teams generally have a greater disparity of talent with some first year players participating on these teams. Evaluations for all the A and B level teams are held in the fall. Evaluations for the C level team are held in the spring. The travel teams generally practice two evenings per week and play a minimum of one game on the weekends (with travel required for away games and tournaments). Boys trying out for travel teams are expected to make the coaches aware if baseball or another activities that may interfere with attending practice, games and tournaments.
Each player must supply their own helmet, shoulder pads, arm pads, gloves, stick and mouth guard. Loaner helmets are available on a first come, first served basis. Goalie equipment will be provided. In the event that providing equipment is a hardship, please contact Chris DeBernardi at 610-543-7929 or chris.debernardi@gmail
Registration is on a first come first serve basis and there may be a waiting list. The Program reserves the right to modify the team configurations including adding or dropping a team due to insufficient coaching volunteers. Playing time will be affected if an effort is not made to attend and participate in practice
US Lacrosse Memberships
The Springfield Athletic Association and SEPYLA do not require players and coaches to carry a US Lacrosse membership. A US Lacrosse membership is required to participate in some tournaments, camps and club programs. In addition to supporting the national governing body of lacrosse, members receive additional insurance benefits (liability and accident) and a subscription to Lacrosse Magazine. When either joining or renewing your US Lacrosse membership, please select the Group ID: 2438852, Springfield Boys Youth Lacrosse so that your membership will be linked to our organization (for boys playing on club teams, you can link your membership to multiple organizations). More information on memberships can be found at the US Lacrosse website.
