SCLL Holds Fall General Membership Meeting
General members of Spotsylvania County Little League joined together Wednesday evening, Oct. 21 for their fall General Membership Meeting. This meeting is held each year to provide a year-end, general business and financial update to SCLL’s general members. It is also when they elect members for their Board of Directors.
During the membership’s business meeting, outgoing SCLL president, John Hall provided the membership with an overview of the League’s financial status. “I’m pleased to report that SCLL is financially sound and situated for the 2010 season, “said Hall. “There are many expenses in running the League and we work hard to get the most for the money we spend helping to provide the best baseball experience possible.”
Hall continued the meeting by providing a state of the League report. “For the 2009 season upwards of a 1,000 children participated in baseball, with more than 50 teams in the spring and 30 teams in the fall, and more than 250 approved volunteers helped make this possible” said Hall. “It’s truly because of the efforts of all the League’s volunteers that we were able to provide a successful baseball season to the children of Spotsylvania County.”
Concluding his remarks Hall remarked, “It’s been my honor and privilege to serve as President the last year, and as an officer of the board since its creation three years ago. I leave knowing in my heart that the League will be in caring, capable hands. The state of our league is solid and poised to become the overwhelming choice of baseball programs in Spotsylvania County.”
As the meeting came to a close the membership voted for the 2010 SCLL board of directors. Nominated by SCLL’s nominating committee and from the floor, the slate of candidates were voted on by the General Membership either in person or by absentee ballot.
Individuals elected to serve a one year term on Spotsylvania County Little League’s board of directors were: Luke Breivik, Laruen Castle, Kim Cheesbrew, Warren Cooper, Hillary Lober, Scott Neal, Jeff Ooten, Robert Simpson, Kristen Sowa, Brian Sherman, Scott VanBenschoten and Brian Wolfe.
Congratulations to the 2010 SCLL board members.

SCLL General Membership Approves Constitution Change
During the fall general membership meeting, the League’s General Members considered a proposed date and time change for when the Annual General Membership meeting is held. As required by the League’s Constitution, the Annual General Membership meeting was to be held the third Wednesday of October at 6 p.m.
In an effort to make the meeting more accessible to General Members and to align the Board’s term with the SCLL fiscal year, it was proposed to the membership that the new date and time for the Annual General Membership meeting be the fourth Wednesday in September at 7 p.m.
The measure passed overwhelmingly during the election process. “Many of our members commute, making it difficult for them to make a 6 p.m. meeting,” said Jeff Ooten, SCLL president. “Also, the extra month of planning time will also be beneficial for future boards as they work to plan their baseball seasons.”
