Sporting 94 Win 2009 District II Cup - Back to Back Champs
The Sporting ’94 Boys Team swept their competition and also went undefeated scoring 20 goals and only letting one into their net all weekend. They racked-up 16 goals during bracket play with a 8-0 win over Palo Alto White, 5-0 over San Carlos Flames, and a 3-1 win over Mt Hamilton PAC Cosmos. They finished the 2009 tournament in a 2008 District Cup championship rematch against the Palo Alto Blue Team. Last year Sporting won 1-0 in a closely fought game, and this year the team played to a 0-0 tie during the first half playing into the wind. The team took to the field the second half with Morgan Hill winds to their backs and scored their first goal within a minute after kick-off when a crossing ball was met with a diving header. That goal broke the Palo Alto defense and Sporting went on to win 4-0 to earn them back-to back championships.

Sporting '94 Are Semi-Finalists at 2009 Sporting Invitational
The Sporting '94 Team finished as Semi-Finalists yesterday in the 2009 Santa Clara Sporting Invitational Tournament in the U15 Age Group. The team won their bracket during the first two days of competition with a 2-0 win over FCA United (was Alliance Eagles), a 2-1 victory over the Evergeeen Team from Washington, and then drew a 2-2 tie with San Ramon SC Elite. The team suffered a few injuries during bracket play, then faced the Alliance Corsairs in the QuarterFinals. Playing through some injuries, some really bad officiating and a small field, the team came through with a 4-0 win over the Corsairs. Santa Clara was matched-up against Diablo SC 95 in the Semi-Final match on Sunday morning. Diablo was able to score a goal in the first-half on a quick counter-attack play, then Sporting leveled the game when defender Danny Corral shot a laser line drive through the Diablo keeper from 40 yards-out on a free kick. Neither team could find the winning goal in regulation play, thus forcing the teams into a penalty shoot-out. Although Sporting goalie Ryan Foo made two saves, the team came-up short and Diablo went on to play the PAC Tigres in the Championship match. Overall, it was a very good result for the team!
