Welcome!
The Spike Volleyball Club is an amateur, non-profit organization for girls ages 16 and under, which is registered with the State of Florida. It is designed to promote, improve and enhance the sport of volleyball for young girls. We pride ourselves in keeping our team numbers to a minimum allowing maximum playing time for each player while still covering our expenses. The club is affiliated with the USA Volleyball Florida Region (www.usavfl.org).
Our Assistant Director, Diane Fitzsimmons, began the club in 2003 for the 2004 Club Season. Since then, she has used her experience to form and establish a well-organized volleyball program with some of the best coaches in Miami Dade County. The 08/09 club season will feature a passing of the torch as Diane hands over the directorship to her daughter Allie Fitzsimmons, who last year was the assistant director and head coach of our 12 and under team. Allie has also served as LaSalle High School’s junior varsity coach this past year and Gainesville High School’s the previous fall.
This year we are looking to cut our prices as low as we can. Our Travel team wil be $1600 and our Local Teams will be $1000. Spike further offers a practice-only option for $500.00 where girls can come practice during season with the teams, but are unable to participate in tournaments. Prices include: Insurance, tournament, equipment, and administration costs, coach’s salaries, as well as hotel and uniform fees where they apply. This does not include the USAV membership fee which you must do online prior to tryouts. A Medical Release form must also be completed, signed and notarized. The membership and medical form can be completed on the USAV website, www.usavfl.org. Go into new or returning members, enter your password and follow the instructions. Try-out fees are $25 per player. Transportation costs are also not included, as Spike does not provide transportation to tournaments. It is the parent’s responsibility to arrange transportation to all local and out of town tournaments. Travel and non-travel teams are selected through tryouts on a talent-level basis. 8-10 will travel and 2-6 additional athletes will be allowed to practice per team. Thank you!
