Selects Begin Summer Season
The WVBA Selects Black and Silver teams will begin their summer season with workouts the first week of June. First game action will be June 29th at the End of the Trail Shootout in Oregon City. The Selects will play five tournaments in five weeks. Below is a list of workouts and practices prior to our first games:

Blacks Finish Spring Season on Strong Note
The WVBA Selects Black playing with 6 players for all but one game posted a 3-1 record at the Oregon Elite Invitational in Lake Oswego. The girls lost only one game that was at the buzzer in posting their 3-1 record.
Coach Davidson & Montes' Silver squad weren't quite as lucky. The battled in all four games but couldn't come up with a win.
Both squads begin summer play June 29th at the End of the Trail Shootout at Oregon City. Both teams will play five tournaments in June & July from Seattle to Berkeley.
Selects to Finish Spring Season at
Oregon Elite Invitational
The WVBA Selects Black and Silver will finish their spring season at the Oregon Elite Invitational at Lake Oswego High and Beaverton High. The Blacks open play on Saturday, May 19th versus 3-D Canucks (Canada) at Lake Oswego High (12:45pm) then play later in the day against Oregon Elite Red (4:30pm). The Silvers open up at Beaverton High against Oregon Xtreme Black (12:45pm) then play later against Oregon Elite Orange (3:15pm).
Sunday the Blacks play Oregon Xtreme White at Beaverton High (11:45pm), then finish the tourney against Mid-Valley Monarchs Silver at Lake Oswego High (3:30pm). The Silvers play Team Concept Sun at Beaverton High (10:30am) then finish up versus Oregon Elite Red (1:00pm).
There is one workout remaining in the spring schedule, next Monday, May 14th from 7:00-8:30pm at Lane CC. Both teams will practice next Thursday, May 17th from 7:00-9:00pm also at Lane CC.
Silver Squad Splits with Monarchs
Coach Montes & Coach Davidson's WVBA Selects Silver squad split a pair of games with the Mid-Valley Monarchs today at Calapooia MS in Albany. In the first game, the Silvers led for most of the game and came away with a 52-43 win over the Monarchs Diamond team. Shelby Bartram (Sheldon HS) led scorers with 16 pts, Ally Kauffman (Thurston) was next with 11 pts, Mariah Moore (Sheldon HS) had 9 pts and 7 steals. Kauffman led the rebounders with 6 caroms, Dani Baker (Sutherlin MS) had 5 boards. In the second game the Silvers led 50-47 but were outscored 8-0 in final three minutes going down to a 55-50 defeat to the Mid-Valley Monarchs White. Bartram led scorers agains with 11 pts, Baker had 9 pts plus pulling down 14 rebounds. Kaitlin Erner (Cottage Grove HS) had 9 pts and 10 rebounds. Bartram had 5 rebounds and Maggie Schaefers (Sheldon HS) also had 5 rebounds.
The Silvers are in action again tomorrow at 1:45pm and 3pm versus Henley HS and MVBA Storm at Lebanon HS. The Black squad also plays a pair of games tomorrow against Henley HS and Monarchs White, also at Lebanon HS.

Blacks finish 2-2, Silvers 1-3 at MSNM Spring Fling
The WVBA Selects dropped two close games on Saturday, then rebounded with two big wins on Sunday to finish 2-2 at the MSNM Spring Fling in Kirkland, WA. In the first game on Saturday, the Blacks dropped a 46-42 decision to Northside TT Black (Seattle). Niki Duncan (Springfield HS) led with 15 pts, Kiana Brown (Triangle Lake HS) had 11 pts plus Leah Nicklason (Sheldon HS) had 12 pts. and 7 rebounds. In the second contest Saturday, it was another close loss, 62-57 to the Monarchs Gold (Salem). Duncan once again led the team in scoring with 16 pts, Shelby Snook (Roseburg HS) was next with 15 pts, Nicklason had 14 pts and 6 rebounds, Maikala Hiddleston had 9 pts and led the rebounders with 7. On Sunday, the Blacks came out on fire, blizting ECBA 16 Swish 93-44. Duncan poured in 24 pt, Snook had 19 pts, Beth Layman (Creswell HS) had 17 pts, Hiddleston had a double-double with 10 pts & 11 rebounds, Nicklason had 9 pts, Brown had 9 pts, 5 assists, 3 steals & rounding out scoring was Ashley Portier (Cottage Grove HS) with 7 pts. In the final contest of the tournament, the Blacks defeated ECBA Lady Pioneers 64-52. Snook led scorers with 20 pts, Brown with 16 pts with Nicklason scoring 12 pts and grabbing 7 rebounds.
The Silver squad dropped two close games Saturday by almost identical scores losing 44-34 to the North Sound Elite (Seattle) and 45-33 to Sagebrush Hoops Orange (Pasco). In the first game Mariah Moore (Sheldon HS) led all scorers with 11 pts, Shelby Bartram (Sheldon HS) had 7 pts. Sarah Hall (Sheldon HS) grabbed 8 rebounds to lead the team. In the second game, Hall led all scorers with 11 pts, Bartram had 9 pts plus Savannah Mast (North Douglas HS) had 5 pts. The girls rebounded Sunday losing a high scoring first game 66-55 to PS Flight 2016. Hall had a double-double with 18 pts and 10 reb. Bartram and Kaitlyn Erner (Cottage Grove HS) had 9 pts each. The final game was a resounding win for the Silvers smashing Premier Elite Gold (Vancouver, WA.) 66-9. Moore led the scorers with 15 pts, Sara Lange (Marist HS) had 12 pts, Ally Kauffman (Thurston HS) had 9 pts, Erner and Bailey Garber (Kelly MS) had 8 pts each. Erner led all rebounders with 10 boards plus Dani Baker (Sutherlin MS) had 9 caroms.
Both squads resume action May 5-6 at the Oregon Amateur tournament in Albany/Lebanon to warmup for the final big tournament the Oregon Elite Invitational May 19-20 at Lake Oswego High.
Kelsey Hill Named State 4A Player of the Year
Kelsey Hill (Sutherlin HS) a two year member of WVBA Selects Black has been named State 4A Player of the Year after leading her Sutherlin HS team to the state championship game. Congratulations Kelsey! Also, congratulations to Hannah Reynolds (Mazama HS/WVBA Selects Black) as she was selected to the 4A All-State second team and another WVBA Selects Black team member, Ellen Ferrenburg was selected to the 5A Honorable Mention All-State team. WVBA Selects Silver team member Alisen Hinton (Springfield HS) was also selected to the 5A Honorable Mention All-State team.
Blacks Finish 2nd, Silvers finish with three wins at Oregon Select Invitational
The WVBA Selects Black defeated the Oregon Selects 72-66 in the semi-finals today, then ran up against a hot-shooting Rebels Red team in the championship game losing in the final.
The WVBA Selects Silver team won both games Sunday to finish the tournament with three straight wins and a 3-2 record. Details on all games will follow later.

Oregon Selects Invitational
The WVBA Selects Black finished pool play at the the Oregon Selects Invitational with a 2-0 record. The Blacks beat Premier Elite Black (Vancouver, WA.) 51-31 behind Kiana Brown's (Triangle Lake HS) 15 pts. Leah Nicklason (Sheldon HS) added 12 pts. with Niki Duncan (Springfield HS) throwing in 11 pts. in the win. All three players also pulled down 5 rebounds each to lead the team. In the second game, the Blacks pounded the Rebels White (Portland, OR.) 71-36. Taylor GeDeros (Coquille HS) led scorers with 13 pts., Carissa Kernutt added 12 pts. as did Nicklason. Duncan rounded out the scoring with 11 pts. Shelby Snook had the best all-around game with 9 pts, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. The Blacks play in the semi-finals tomorrow morning at 10:10 vs. the Oregon Selects.
The WVBA Selects Silver team dropped their first two games, first to the Oregon Selects 64-48. Shelby Bartram (Sheldon High) tossed in 9 pts to lead the scoring, Ally Kauffman (Thurston HS) added 7 pts, Sarah Hall (Sheldon HS) scored 6 pts. and led all rebounders with 6. The Silvers dropped their second game to the Rebels Red (Portland, OR.) and won their third game against Team Fast Break, scores and stats unavailable. The Silvers play in the consolation bracket tomorrow morning vs. Rebels White at 9:00am.
Spring Workouts Begin April 2nd
Spring workouts will begin April 2nd and be held twice weekly, Monday and Thursday, 7:00-8:30pm at Lane Community College gym. All middle school and high school players are welcome. The cost will be $15 per session, five sessions for $70, ten sessions for $125. Workout costs are included in spring WVBA Selects players fee.

Hinton, Duncan win 5A State title; Hill unanimous 4A State all-tournament
Alisen Hinton (Springfield HS/WVBA Selects Silver) and Niki Duncan (Springfield HS/WVBA Selects Silver) and their Springfield HS teammates won the 5A State title last night 16-7 over Willamette. Hinton was also named to the 5A all-tournament second team.
Kelsey Hill (Sutherlin HS/WVBA Selects Black) was selected unanimous 4A state all-tournament first team after her school was defeated in the final. Hannah Reynolds (Mazama HS/WVBA Selects Black) was selected to the 4A state all-tournament second team.
Carissa Kernutt (Sisters HS/WVBA Selects White) was also named second team All-SkyEm Conference this year, congratulations!
Kelsey Hill Far West Player of the Year; Karissa Harbick, Taya Harbick, Kiana Brown State All-Tournament
Kelsey Hill (Sutherlin HS/WVBA Selects Black) was named Far West Conference Player of the Year (4A) this week. Kelsey will be joining her teammates at Gill Coliseum this week to try and keep their undefeated season going and win a state championship.
And speaking of State Champions, Karissa Harbick (McKenzie High/WVBA Selects Black) and Taya Harbick (McKenzie High/WVBA Selects Black) completed their season winning the State 1A Championship on Saturday. Karissa turned in memorable semi-final and final game performances scoring 13 and 16 pts in the fourth quarter in the last two games. Both Karissa and Taya were named to the first team All-tournament team along with Kiana Brown (Triangle Lake HS/WVBA Selects White). Congratulations!
Kaylee Peck (Oakridge HS/WVBA Selects Black) was also named 1st team All-Mountain View League (2A) this week. Additionally, Jazz Hancock (Days Creek HS/WVBA Selects White) received 2nd team All- Mountain View Conference honors, congratulations girls!
Hannah Rodrigues Named Special District # 1 Player of the Year
Hannah Rodrigues (Sheldon HS/WVBA Selects Silver) was selected the Special District # 1 (6A) Player of the Year. Teammate Ashley Land (Sheldon HS/WVBA Selects Silver) was selected first team All-League as well. Kyrsha Witherspoon (Sheldon HS/WVBA Selects White) and Tiwanna Hamilton (Sheldon HS/WVBA Selects Silver) were Honorable Mention selections.
Taya Harbick Selected Mountain West Conference Player of the Year
Taya Harbick (McKenzie HS/WVBA Selects Black) was selected Player of the Year in the Mountain West Conference (1A) this season, edging cousin Karissa Harbick (McKenzie HS/WVBA Selects Black) who had been POY the past two seasons. Karissa was named 1st team All-League along with Kiana Brown (Triangle Lake HS/WVBA Selects White). All three players will enter the 1A State playoffs this week in their quest to reach the 1A State tournament in Baker City, Good Luck girls!
Ellen Ferrenburg (North Eugene HS/WVBA Selects Black), Alisen Hinton (Springfield HS/WVBA Selects Silver) and Sami Pitts (Marist HS/WVBA Selects White) were selected to the Midwestern League (5A) 1st team All-League team. Hanna Mack (Marist HS/WVBA Selects Black) and Niki Duncan (Springfield HS/WVBA Selects Silver) were selected to the Midwestern League 2nd team All-League. Tori Mahaffie (Willamette HS/WVBA Selects Black) and Halley Winter (North Eugene HS/WVBA Selects Silver) were Honorable Mention.
WVBA Selects Summer Schedule Announced
The WVBA Selects tentative summer schedule will consist of two tournaments in Oregon City, two tournaments in California and one in Seattle. As we have done in the past, invitations will be sent out in February to selected players, then a tryout will be held Saturday, March 17th for the remaining spots on our three teams. All three teams has several spots available for next summer. We will also hold training sessions for all summer players beginning in late March at Lane Community College. Additionally, we will have a limited spring schedule for our summer teams for players who are available.

Mack and Ferrenburg Ink Letters of Intent
Veteran WVBA Select Black players Hanna Mack (Marist HS) and Ellen Ferrenburg (North Eugene HS) signed Letters of Intent this morning on the first day of the early signing period. Mack signed with Eastern Washington University (Div. I) and Ferrenburg signed with Northwest Nazarene University (Div. II). Mack has played with the Black squad for three years and Ferrenburg has been a black squad member for two years. We wish them the best of luck in their college careers beginning in 2012-2013 school year!

Selects Finish 2-2 in Seattle
Both Black and Silver squads finished 2-2 in the MSNM Fall Classic. Both teams had victories in their first games Sunday, but both were beaten in the finale's. Both squad's are now idle until the spring season.
Blacks and Silvers 1-1 in Seattle
The WVBA Selects Black won their first game 54-46 vs Cleveland High Saturday in Seattle. They then lost a second half lead and were defeated 60-47 at the hand of the Spokane Star Blue. In the Spokane game, Megan Risinger (Tigard HS) led the Black with 15 pts and 5 rebs., Shelby Snook (Roseburg HS) had 10 pts, Ellen Ferrenburg (North Eugene HS) fought foul trouble but scored 9 pts. Tori Mahaffie also added 5 rebs for the Black squad.
The Silver squad also won their first game defeating the Grizzlies 56-37. Hannah Rodrigues (Sheldon HS) led the team with 15 pts, Ashley Land (Sheldon HS) had 14 pts and Carmen Wright (Willamette HS) had 9 pts. Just like the Black team, the Silvers lost their quarterfinal game 77-49 to YEA Black. Land had 11, Wright had 8 pts and Niki Duncan (Churchill HS) had 8 pts.
Both teams play two consolation games today to end the tournament.
WVBA Selects Black and Silver Play In Seattle Oct. 8-9
Coach Wingate's Black squad and Coach Wilkins' Silver squad will play in the MSNM Fall Classic, Oct. 8-9 in Seattle. The Black squad plays Cleveland, 3:15pm at Juanita High, the Silver squad plays the Grizzlies, 10:00am at Lake Washington High. The Black squad for this tournament, Ellen Ferrenburg (North Eugene High), Tori Mahaffie (Willamette High), Karissa Harbick (McKenzie High), Shelby Snook (Roseburg High), Taya Harbick (McKenzie High), Megan Risinger (Tigard High), Kyrsha Witherspoon (Sheldon High) and Kiana Brown (Triangle Lake High). The Silver squad has Hannah Rodrigues (Sheldon High), Carmen Wright (Willamette High), Ashley Land (Sheldon High), Nikki Duncan (Churchill High), Halley Winter (North Eugene High), Delaney Martin (Marist High), Sami Pitts (Marist High), Dani Krier (Marist High) and Mckensey Peters (North Medford High).
Both teams will play in the elite division in this NCAA viewing tournament, the only one of the fall.
Black and Silver teams Capture Crowns
WVBA Select Black and Silver teams captured championships in their respective tournaments to today. The Black squad avenged a pool loss to The Basketball Institute (Portland) yesterday by defeating the Portland squad 57-48 in the Championship game of the Emerald City Summer Classic at Lane Community College. Coach Wilkins Silver squad won their second straight MSNM bracket championship at the MSNM Western Nationals in San Diego by defeating the Spokane Stars Navy 59-51. Tomorrow the Silvers play in the semi-finals of the overall championship, looking to win their third straight title this summer.
Additionally, our White squad lost a tough semi-final battle with the Basketball Instititue this morning 45-42, but were awarded the third place trophy when South Eugene forfeited the third place game.
Ellen Ferrenburg (North Eugene HS), Kelsey Hill (Sutherlin HS) and Hannah Reynolds (Mazama HS) from the Black squad were chosen for the ECSC All-Tournament team. Also chosen were Sami Pitts (Marist HS) and Kyrsha Witherspoon from the White team.
Despite only having a complete squad for two tournaments the Black squad finished the summer with a 15-9 record, one 1st place finish, one 2nd place finish and a consolation championship. The White squad finished in 2nd place once and 3rd place once in five tournaments compling a 14-10 record. The Silver squad finishes their summer season tomorrow.
WVBA Selects Silver Wins Third Consecutive Overall Tournament Championship

Silver team defeated Bucky's Eagles Elite (Kelso, WA.) 56-32 to win the
MSNM Western Championships All-Star tournament. It's the third
consecutive overall tournament championship for the Silver squad this
summer . Congratulations to Hannah Rodrigues (Sheldon HS), Tiwanna
Hamilton (Sheldon HS), Ashley Land (Sheldon HS), Ali Hinton
(Springfield HS), Carmen Wright (Willamette HS), Niki Duncan (Churchill
HS), Alyssa Worthen (Churchill HS), Bri Stubbs (North Eugene HS),
Halley Winters (North Eugene HS) and Delanee Martin (Marist HS) for
compiling a 23-4 record this summer season.
Black and White Teams in ECSC Semi's; Silver Team Plays in MSNM Bracket Final Today!
The WVBA Selects Black and White teams play in the Emerald City Summer Classic semi-finals today. The White squad plays the Basketball Institute (Portland) at 8:30am in one semi, while the Black squad plays South Eugene in the other semi at 9:45am.
The Silver team plays in their Bracket final today in the MSNM Western Championships in San Diego.
WVBA SELECTS SILVER WIN CHAMPIONSHIP AT SUPER 64 ADIDAS IN LAS VEGAS
With another dominating performance, the Silver squad trounced Triple Threat (WA.) 77-56 to win the U-16 Division at the Super 64 Adidas tournament in Las Vegas. Hannah Rodrigues (Sheldon HS) and Ali Hinton (Springfield HS) were Co-Most Valuable players for the tournament.
In the Championship game, the Silvers put six players in double figures led by Niki Duncan (Churchill HS) with 14 pts., Carmen Wright (Willamette HS) was next with 13 pts. Rodrigues, Halley Winters (North Eugene HS), Tiwanna Hamilton (Sheldon HS) and Delanee Martin (Marist HS) all had 10 pts. Hinton led the team with 5 assists to go along with 7 pts plus Bri Stubbs (North Eugene HS had 3 pts in the win. Rodrigues led all rebounders with 8 caroms.
This is the second championship in two weeks for the Silver team plus they finished 5th at the first End of the Trail Tournament. That makes six trophies this summer for our Selects teams, three for the Silver, two for the Black and one for the White squad.
Coach Wilkins Silver squad now travels to San Diego to compete in the MSNM Western Championships All-Star Division which they will be one of the favorite's to win. Good Luck girls and GREAT JOB!
Silvers Look for 2nd Summer Title Today
Coach Kenya Wilkins WVBA Selects Silver team looks for their second tournament title of the summer today when they play Triple Threat (WA.) at 11:40am at the Super 64 Adidas tournament in Las Vegas. The Silvers won the MSNM National All-Star title two weeks ago in Seattle. The Silver squad defeated Triple Threat in pool play earlier this week.
This will be the third trophy of the Summer for the Silver team. The squad consists of all local players including Hannah Rodrigues (Sheldon HS), Ashley Land (Sheldon HS), Tiwanna Hamilton (Sheldon HS), Niki Duncan (Churchill HS), Alyssa Worthen (Churchill HS), Halley Winters (North Eugene HS), Brianne Stubbs (North Eugene HS), Carmen Wright (Willamette HS), Alisen Hinton (Springfield HS) and Delanee Martin (Marist HS).
Silvers Sweep MSNM National All-Star Tournament for Title;
Black and White Team Finish 2nd at So Cal Classic
Coach Wilkins Silver squad won all six games and won the 2011 MSNM National All-Star tournament in Seattle. The Silver move on to the Super 64 Adidas tournament in Las Vegas July 21-25. The Black and Whites team both finished second in their divisions at the So Cal Classic in Anaheim. They both begin play in the MNSM Pacific Coast tournament, July 22-24 in Santa Clara.
Black & White Teams Move to L.A., Silver Finish Up at EOT All-Star
The WVBA Selects Black and White squads have finished up at Oregon City and move on to the So Cal Classic, July 11-13 at the Anaheim Sports Center. The WVBA Selects Silver have an additional game at Oregon City before moving on to the MSNM Nationals in Seattle.
The Black squad opened Friday's play with a 60-51 loss to Nevada Academy 17's. Tori Mahaffie (Willamette HS) led the Blacks with 14 pts with Hanna Mack (Marist HS) adding 13 pts. The Blacks finished the All-Star tournament with a 2-2 record by blasting the Colorado Chill Blacks 62-37 behind Mahaffie's 16 pts. Karissa Harbick (McKenzie HS) scored 11 pts and Kelsey Hill (Sutherlin HS) added 8 pts in the win. The Blacks summer record is now 6-3.
Coach Brancato's White, although in every game, came away with a 1-3 record after dropping a 47-44 game to Boulder (CO) White. Kiana Brown (Triangle Lake HS) had a game high 23 pts, Kyrsha Witherspoon (So. Eugene HS) added 11 pts and Felli Rodriguez (Springfield HS) pulled down 9 rebounds to lead the squad.
Coach Wilkins Silver squad won their first two games of the tourney before dropping two straight. The Silvers are an injured team right now. Mainstay Ashley Land (Sheldon HS) is out for the summer with a bone chip in her ankle and a couple other injuries have hampered the Silvers. The girls dropped a 53-28 decision to the Colorado Basketball Club Blacks last night. Hannah Rodrigues (Sheldon HS) led all scorers with 21 pts. The Silver squad finishes the tournament this morning with a contest against the Spokand Sandpipers.
Black & Silver Open EOT All-Star With Wins
WVBA Selects Black defeated Mile High Magic (Denver, CO) 51-48 in overtime last night to open the End of the Trail All-Star, 228 team tournament, with a win in the Gold bracket. WVBA Selects Silver team also opened with a 48-32 win over the Salt Lake Metro Black team in the Platinum bracket. Taya Harbick (McKenzie HS) and Hanna Mack (Marist HS) led Black scorers with 10 pts each, Mack added a team high 8 rebounds. Niki Duncan (Churchill HS) led the Silver team in scoring with 14 pts, Ashley Land (Sheldon HS) was next with 11 pts.
WVBA Selects White lost a tough battle with Sacramento Sting 57-46. Sami Pitts (Marist HS) scored 12 pts to lead all scorers, Kyrsha Witherspoon (South Eugene HS) was next with 11pts.
All three teams play second round games today and continue with play through Saturday.
Blacks win Consolation Title, Silvers finish 5th at EOT Shootout
WVBA Selects Black and Silver picked up trophies at the End of the Trail Shootout this weekend at Oregon City. The Black squad jumped out to an 18 pt halftime in route to a 54-39 victory over the Cloud 9 Storm (Kelso, WA.) to capture the consolation title in the Blue Bracket. The Silver team made several runs at Oregon City staying close until the last couple minutes but came up short and finished with the 5th place trophy in Red Bracket.
Coach Wingate's Black squad started the final game in the same manner as Saturday's semi-final fast! They jumped to quick 8-0 start in route to a 28-10 halftime lead. The Blacks to the victory behind 10 pts from Kelsey Hill (Sutherlin HS) and Shelby Snook (Roseburg HS). Ellen Ferrenburg (North Eugene HS) and Megan Risinger (Tigard HS) were next with 7 pts, Hanna Mack (Marist HS) with 6 pts. Taya and Karissa Harbick (McKenzie HS) each had 5 pts. Ferrenburg led all rebounders with 6, Mack and Risinger had 4, Taya Harbick and Tori Mahaffie (Willamette HS) had 3 boards. Point Guard Hannah Reynolds (Mazama HS) led the squad with 3 assists. The Blacks play in the Duck Jam, July 5th at Matthew Knight Arena against the New Mexico Heat Elite.
Coach Wilkins Silver squad opened Sunday's play with a 3rd place semi-final win over Wilson HS (Tacoma, WA) 48-20. Alisen Hinton (Springfield HS) led all scorers with 10 pts, Niki Duncan (Churchill HS) had 9 pts and Ashley Land (Sheldon HS) put in 8 pts. In the 3rd place game, the girls battled perennial state champ Oregon City before losing 49-39. Duncan led scorers with 10 pts, Carmen Wright (Willamette HS) had 9 pts. and Hannah Rodrigues had 8 pts. The Silver squad plays in the Duck Jam tomorrow also against Team Stingray (Hawaii) who they defeated earlier this weekend at the EOT Shootout.
Coach Brancato's White squad lost their last game in the Shootout, 58-48 to the FCA Revolution (Seattle). No stats were availabe. The White squad plays in the Duck Jam tomorrow versus the Wiggins Waves.
Silver 2-0, Black 1-1 & White 1-1 at End of the Trail Shootout
Coach Wilkins' Silver squad won their first two games at the End of the Trail Shootout to advance to the Championship quarterfinal today. The Silvers defeated Premier Elite (Vancouver, Wa) in the first game, then Southridge Black in their second game. No individual stats were available.
Coach Wingate's Black squad dropped a close 47-41 decision to Columbia Waves (WA.) in their game but bounced back to hammer the Alaska Blizzards 74-14 to advance to the Consolation quarterfinals. In the first game, Ellen Ferrenburg (North Eugene HS) was the leading scorer with 13 pts with Tori Mahaffie leading all rebounders with 5. In the second game, Karissa Harbick (McKenzie HS) led all scorers with 17 pts, including 5-for-9 from the three pt line. Megan Risinger (Tigard HS) with next with 12 pts, Mahaffie added 11 and Kelsey Hill (Sutherlin HS) and Hanna Mack (Marist HS) added 10 pts each.
Coach Brancato's White team faced powerful Advantage Y.E.A. Elite and were defeated 70-26. Kiana Brown led the White team with 12 pts. In the second contest, Brown once again was the leading scorer with 17 pts., Chloe Cummins (Marist HS) had 14 pts and Felli Rodriguez (Springfield HS) had 10 rebounds.
The Silver squad faces Oregon Elite Navy in the championship quarterfinals, the Blacks face Oregon Elite Orange in the consolation quarterfinals and the Whites face Lake Elite (WA.) in the consolation quarterfinals.
WVBA SELECTS TO OPEN SUMMER SEASON JULY 1st IN OREGON CITY
All three summer elite teams, Black, White & Silver will open their summer schedules July 1st at the End of the Trail Shootout in Oregon City. Coach Wilkins' Silver squad opens the tournament at 9am vs Premier Elite (WA) in the Baker Prairie MS gym. The Black squad plays the Columbia Waves (WA) at 11:40am in the Clackamas CC gym. The final opening game belongs to Coach Brancato's White squad who will play Advantage YEA Elite (WA) at 3:30pm in the main gym at Oregon City High. These times, dates and opponents are tentative. The schedule has changed several times since it was first posted and will probably change before the tournament begins so keep yourself updated.
Game Time Academy & Selects White Win Titles
Game Time Academy, which includes all members of our WVBA Selects Silver summer team, and WVBA Selects White teams won divisional titles at this weekend's WVBA Spring Invitational at Lane Community College. Game Time defeated Oregon Selects Gold 38-20 to win the American Division title. WVBA Selects Black team defeated Mid Valley Monarchs Gold 63-42 to take 3rd place in the American Division.
Coach Brancato's White team finished the National Division title game on a 25-1 run to defeat the Mid Valley Monarchs Silver 59-42 for the title. Premier Elite Gold defeated High Mountain Hoops Fire 29-19 to take third place in the division.
Both the Black and White squads finish their spring campaigns May 21-22 in the Oregon Elite Invitational at Lake Oswego High School. All three summer squads begin their summer schedules July 1-3 at the End of the Trail Shootout in Oregon City.
Russell Invited to USA U-16 National Team Tryouts
Mercedes Russell, member of the WVBA Selects Silver team and also this year's Oregon 5A State Player of the Year has been invited to tryout for the USA U-16 National team. The tryouts will take place May 26-30 at the USA National Headquarters in Colorado Springs, CO. If Mercedes is selected for the team she will play in the FIBA Americas Tournament in Merida, Mexico on June 13-18, 2011.........GOOD LUCK MERCEDES !!!
Hill & Richardson Add to All-State List
Kelsey Hill (Sutherlin HS) who recently transferred from Coquille HS was named today to the 3A First team All-State. Bailey Richardson (Coquille HS) was named to 3A Third team All-State. Both players are current members of our spring White team. Joining Hill and Richardson on the 3A All-State team was Aleena Cesaro from Cascade Christian HS (Black '10) was received Honorable Mention. These three are additions to a long list of WVBA Select players named to All-State teams this season
Wilcox & Peck Light It Up
Kersey Wilcox (Mountain View HS) scored 28 and her sister Jordan Wilcox (Mountain View) scored 14 pts to lead the Black team to a 74-62 win over the Mid-Valley Monarchs on the second day of the MSNM Spring Fling. Chloe Stiles (Sheldon HS) also scored 13 pts. in the win. The Blacks lost their last game 71-67 to Shock Girls Basketball. J. Wilcox, K. Wilcox and Stiles once again led the team in scoring with 16, 12 and 13 pts respectively. Hanna Curtius (South Medford HS) had 8 steals.
Kaylee Peck (Oakridge HS) led the White team to their only win of the weekend scoring 30 pts in the process. The Whites beat Evergreen Express with Peck hitting 6-of-8 three pt shots in route to the win. The Black team lost their last game losing to Beaverton Black.
Blacks 1-1, Whites 0-2 in Seattle
The WVBA Selects Black and White teams opened up play in the MSNM Spring Fling in Seattle yesterday with the Black team splitting two games, beating Lake Elite 72-52, then dropping a close 70-65 decision to Advantage-YEA Elite. The White squad dropped a pair games, losing 51-44 to Advantage-Merritt and Beaverton Black 63-43.
In the opening win the Black squad had four players in double figures Kersey Wilcox (Mountain View HS) led the way with 16 pts, Taylor Mills (Oregon City HS), Hanna Curtius (South Medford HS) and Kayla Dillon (Sheldon HS) had 11 pts. Chloe Stiles (Sheldon HS) led all rebounders with 9, Kersey Wilcox also pulled down 8. In the second game, Taylor Mills had an almost perfect night shooting. She was 10-for-11 from the field including 5-for-6 from the 3 pt line plus she was 2-for-2 at the line for a total of 27 pts. Kayla Dillon followed with 11 pts. with Kayla Cuellar (Central HS) and Hanna Curtius scoring 8 pts each. Cuellar was also the leading rebounder with 8 boards. The Black team plays the Mid-Valley Monarchs Gold this morning at 10:50 in consolation play.

Kelsey Hill (Sutherlin HS) followed with 7 pts plus Karissa Harbick (McKenzie HS) had 6. Karissa Harbick was also the leading rebounder with 12 boards, Taya Harbick (McKenzie HS) pulled down 7 caroms, Rodriguez and Hill had 6 each.
In the second game, Karissa Harbick was the leading scorer with 11 pts followed by Kaylee Peck (Oakridge HS) and Brown with 7 pts. Hill was the leading rebounder with 7 boards followed by Taya Harbick with 6.
The White squad plays the Evergreen Express today at 9:25am in consolation play.
