The Alan Hook Memorial Award Description & Recipients

"The Alan Hook Memorial Award"

Alan Hook was a member of the 1991-92 Varsity Basketball team (a 3 year Varsity Letterman). Alan helped lead the Spartans to a 20-7 season, the best in school history before the class of 1993 tackled that record with a 28-4 season. Alan finished his High School Career with these incredible accomplishments:

-3 Year Varsity Letterman for Basketball

-3 Year Varsity Letterman for Baseball

-2 Year Varsity Letterman for Football

-Alan served as Captain for all three teams

-2 years as ASB President

-Maintained a 4.0 all four years

After High School, Alan joined the Airforce and played football for the Airforce Academy. As expected, Alan excelled well and was sent to Harvard, paid for by the Airforce .

Alan was headed for training as an Airforce Fighter Pilot, but on June 26, 1998 while in Switzerland on vacation with his Fiance he was in a fatal biking accident.

Caroline Wollner, Alan Hook's Fiance at the time, ran her first marathon after training with Alan for many months and decided in his memory to raise money for the 1st Lt. Alan Michael Hook Memorial Fund, which provides a $1000.00 scholarship to a senior graduating from Hook's alma mater South Torrance High School.

Alan was the model student at South High Scool, a great friend and a true American kid. Some say that Alan was "The All American Kid" or the next President of The United States. Alan also earned his Eagle Award as a Boy Scout. He was a well put together young man, classy, professional, very mature for someone of his age and was the epitome of the ideal student-athlete and a parents dream.

In memory of Alan, we present this Award to an athlete that best fits these criteria:

-A modeled student-athlete on & off the gym floor.

-A role model to his peers.

-Maintains an exceptional GPA of 3.0 or better.

-Plays multiple sports (this can be waived by coaches decision).

-Has a positive attitude towards school, family & friends and has goal-setting aspirations.

-Has a great respect towards friends, family & his community.
