South Texas Hoyas AAU Girls Basketball

Hoyas Logo-2

South Texas Hoyas AAU Competitive Girls Basketball Organization is a proud member of the Amateur Athletic Union. The South Texas Hoyas AAU program was formed in 2005 to provide an ongoing, Elite quality program for girls from grade school through high school to compete in basketball at the highest level. The Hoyas Organization thrives to be one of the most recognized and more successful programs for girls' basketball in San Antonio, Texas.

Our goal is to provide a program for these young ladies, that can consistently compete on a national level as well as provide fundamental excellence for as many girls as possible. The Hoyas have implemented a training program using qualified coaches to improve our players individual skill set, while still preparing them with a Team Concept. In order to meet this goal, we have structured our organization to have multiple teams, so that we may provide more opportunity to compete on the regional and national level.

While we focus on positioning these student-athletes for entry into junior high and high school programs, our overall mission is Helping Our Youth Attain Scholarships & possibly continuing their education and playing basketball at the collegiate level.

"The greater danger for most of us, is not that our aim is too high and we miss it...but that it is too low and we reach it!"

As you know, I have been organizing a fundraising drive to to raise $3,288.00 for a family in San Antonio who's mother died in a domestic violence incident.

There are two children that have lost their mother, an 11 year old, who plays AAU girl's basketball and her 8 year old brother. The coach of the Hoyas, Theresa Nunn, and one her colleagues are seeking help from the community to provide shelter and funds.

If you can donate $2, that would help! Please feel free to donate more.

Tragedy Strikes Within our Family!!!

All,

As most of you may know, we lost a part of our family this past weekend. On Saturday morning, Vernita Bardwell, the mother of one of our players and friend, died in a fatal domestic violence incident. We are truly saddened by the tragic event, and our prayers and condolences go out to the Bardwell family, as well as the Coleman family (friend who also passed in the incident).

The children left behind are an 11-year old girl and an 8-year old boy, both without their mother, and I feel it is our job as a community, to pull together and contribute any way we can to alleviate costs the family may need help with.  This 11 year old girl has not only lost her mother, but her number one fan. However she has expressed that she wants to continue to play basketball, because it is her passion and her mother was so proud of her daughter being a basketball player.

So I would like to put a couple of fund-raising events together to ensure that she will be able to continue to do so, without her or her family ever having to worry about ANYTHING. I will keep everyone updated as to when we will be holding our fund-raising events, and I would appreciate anyone that would like to volunteer in our efforts.
We will also be holding fund-raising events for not only her, but her 8 year old brother and their family, because they will need all the help in the world to care for these young children with day-to-day functions/items/events, not to mention the holidays which are right around the corner.
If you find it in your heart to volunteer for one of the fund-raising events, or would like to donate (monetary, clothing, gift cards, etc.) please feel free to contact me, Theresa Nunn -(210)430-3755 or theresa.nunn@southtexashoyas.com , so that I can give you all the information necessary to make a contribution.
Words cannot express how truly grateful I am for everyone's generosity. Most of all, if anything else, I ask that you keep these beautiful children and their family in your prayers.
On behalf of the family, I would like to thank everyone for your continued encouragement and support!
Sincerely,
South Texas Hoyas Family
