Major Baseball hit 4 Home Runs in Romp over Westwood
Three straight Westwood pitches resulted in three home runs for South Portage. Caleb Lloyd led off the second inning with a shot into left-center for a double. A couple of pitches later Joseph Witt hit a home run. Brandon Haynes was up next and he hit his first pitch over the fence for the inning's 2nd home run. Caleb Mergener then came to the plate and hit the first pitch delivered to him over the fence too. Not wanting to be outdone Caleb Lloyd hit the team's fourth home run of the night - a huge shot that may be still orbiting the Earth had a tree not been in the way.

10-11 YO Baseball All-Stars Win Districts
2010 10-11 All-Stars
SPLL's 10-11 Baseball All-Stars won the District 2 Championship and advance to Gladstone, Michigan for the State tournament. Follow our boys on this page or the Michigan State Little League site here. The tournament starts July 22nd and is a double-elimination format. Good luck and best wishes boys!

10-11, Major, Junior and Senior Baseball All-Stars Win Districts
2010 Major Baseball Champions

South Portage is just one age-group away from a Baseball All-Star sweep. The 9-10 tournament is still playing out and it features a classic showdown between West and South Portage Little Leagues in the final game of the winners bracket. SPLL also played a big part on the District 2 Big League Baseball team that won the State title with both coaches and players from SPLL on the team.

Our 11 YO team took one on the chin Friday, but the Major Baseball team defeated D1 shepherd 10-5. Both our Junior and Senior teams play a sectional best 2 out ot 3 Saturday, July 24th at 2pm against the D15 champion which happens to be Schoolcradt for both divisions.

South Portage's Major Baseball Team joined it's 11 year old team as District 2 Champions. It took the second game of the championship series with Milwood to secure the title, but the boys in blue came out on top with a 2-0 win. Our Majors now move on to Gladstone for the Michign tournament where they play D1: Shepherd on Friday, D14 Bay City on Saturday and SWD4 Birmingham  on Sunday.

All-Stars Move on to State Tournament

SPLL's Senior Baseball All-Star team is another step closer to the World Series after defeating District 15's champion - Schoolcraft. A Saturday afternoon sweep of the Eagles (9-2 and 9-3) in a sectional gives our Senior boys a berth in the State tournament in Midland at Northwood University.

SPLL's 9-10 Softball All-Stars are also headed to the Michigan State LL tournament after sweeping the District 15 Champions (Constantine) in a best two out of three sectional 4-0 and 7-2. Both games were close played games that kept the fans in their seats and chewing on their nails. In game two a big 5 run 6th gave SP some breathing room but Constantine never quit and fought hard to the end. Good luck in Lac St Clair girls!

Our Junior Baseball team also played Schoolcraft in a sectional this weekend. Our Juniors fought hard to overcome a 0-6 deficit late in the first game to eventually win the game in the 9th inning. Unfortunately Schoolcraft ended up winning the next two to win the series and move on to the State tournament.

SPLL's 9-10 Softball All-Stars are in Lac St Clair to play in the Michigan State Softball tournament. The team has their first game Saturday at 2pm.

South Portage's 9-10 softball team had an incredible 10-1 run through Distict 2, a District 2 versus District 15 sectional and the State tournament. In the end just 2 runs seperated our fastpitchers from their ultimate goal. A lot of hard work, determination and effort paid high dividends for our very talented girls as they earned a second place finish in Michigan: out of all the Little Leagues in Michigan these 12 girls beat out all but one team.

Great Job Girls - We are ALL Proud of You!
