7-8s End Wonderful Season
Both South Portage 7-8 year old All-Star teams concluded their season tonight at Mattawan Little League. In somewhat of a shocking conclusion to the season both teams lost for the first time in the tournament.

South Portage A wearing Navy jerseys lost to Mattawan A 12-4 and South Portage B wearing Gold lost to Vicksburg 14-8. Until tonight SPLL A never scored fewer than 10 runs and never gave up more than 6. Similairly SPLL B never scored below 12 runs and and only allowed more than 7 runs once - to West Portage.

Both teams had a wonderful post-season and represented SPLL very well all the way to the end.

Great job boys!

Last year our "South Portage B" team was undefeated in the tournament and was crowned tournament champions. This year a very good showing is expected from both teams.

In addition to regular practices, both teams entered a machine pitch tournamnet put on by Dowagiac Little League. Both teams did very well in the tournament: "South Portage B" took 3rd place and "South Portage A" was just edged out 23-22 Saturday in the tournament quarter finals by "South Portage B".

7-8 Year Old All-Stars Undefeated after Quarter-Finals
Both of South Portage's 7-8 year old baseball All-Star teams are undefeated after pool play and the quarter-finals. It appears the teams are on a collision course with each other and will meet in the championship game Friday, August 12 in Three Rivers. If they both make it to the championship: the game will be a re-match of a quarter-final game in another tournament earlier this month. That game ended with "South Portage B" beating "South Portage A" 23-22 in the bottom of the sixth after "South Portage A" scored 10 runs in the top of the sixth to take the lead 22-21.

To get to Friday's game though "South Portage B" or "White" must defeat a good Vicksburg team Thursday in Mattawan. Tuesday "South Portage B" defeated "Mattawan B" in a quarter-final game 15-5.

"South Portage A" or "Blue" went through their pool with little difficulty and isn't expected to meet much resistance. They played Milwood in a quarter-final game on Wednesday at Niles and won 14-4. They now move on to the semi-finals Thursday and play "Mattawan A".
