***Important information regarding changes to the little league age chart are explained below***

FOR BASEBALL DIVISIONS ONLY

In April 2014, the International Congress approved the new league age determination amendment for Little League Baseball®. To implement the new amendment, it was decided to include a three-year waiting period to execute the change, starting in 2018. Questions from the field were raised about the impact the change would have on players that were currently league age 8 under the traditional system. Using feedback from Little League® parents through our District Administrators, the Little League International Board of Directors adjusted the April-approved implementation strategy in order to modify the impact on all of our minor and major division players. The adjustment also allows for an easier transition for players in the early years of Little League participation.

As a result of this recent adjustment to the implementation strategy, effective immediately, any player born on or after January 1, 2006 who will turn the ages of 4-9 during the 2015 calendar year will be eligible to participate in a local Little League program and will use the new age determination date of December 31 for the remainder of their Little League Baseball career. Players will still be assigned to a division based on local league divisional structure.

Consequently, players born prior to January 1, 2006 will continue to utilize the current age determination date of April 30 for the next three Little League Baseball seasons. Starting with the 2018 Little League Baseball season, all players will utilize the age determination date of December 31.

Opportunities available for Sponsors

South Portage Little League would not be possible if not for the help of our great sponsors! Sponsorship is a great way to give back to the community.  Please call Kathy Irwin to learn more about how you or your company/employer can become an SPLL sponsor. Not sure your employer will be a sponsor? Download the form and take it to work and ask around! What a great way to demonstrate support for a family activity in our community like Little League!!!!
Current and prospective sponsors we thank you for your tremendous support!!!

Do you know about our SCRIP program?

The Scrip Program is a great way to contribute financially to the league at no cost to you!  We have scrip (gift cards) for almost anything: gasoline, groceries, clothes, dining out, gifts, hardware, movie rentals, etc.

How it works-

You purchase gift cards from South Portage that you would normally use or give out as a gift and in return our league makes money off of it. Say you spend $300 per month on groceries, and $150 on gas. Easy, right?  By using SCRIP cards for just these two items, you can net $15 per month for the league.  If 100 families do this, the league can net $1,500 each month at no extra cost to anyone! Purchase your Meijer or Speedway cards (as well as many others) from us to help the league raise money!

Be sure to think about scrip for your start to HOLIDAY shopping (including teacher’s gifts).

Contact Michelle Shinevare @ michelle.shinevare@stryker.com to get your SCRIP (gift cards) NOW!!!!!

Concussion Law-

As of June, 2013 the sports concussion legislation requires all coaches, employees, volunteers, and other adults involved with a youth athletic activity to complete a concussion awareness on-line training program.  Here is the link to the traininghttp://www.cdc.gov/concussion/HeadsUp/Training/index.html

ALL COACHES/ASSISTANT COACHES/VOLUNTEERS will be required to complete this training before entering the field. If you have already taken this training for another sport we will accept that certificate. You may email your certificate of completion to Ann Marie Breese at president@southportagell.com or send into our PO Box 523 Portage, MI 49081

We appreciate your cooperation with this as it is in the best interest of the children and it does contain very important information.

All PARENTS/PLAYERS will also be required to fill out a Concussion Acknowledgement Form stating that you have received the information and are aware of the symptoms and signs of a concussion.  You may email this acknowledgement form to Nichole Lauraine at registrar@southportagell.com or you may also send into our PO Box 523 Portage, MI 49081 Saturday, February 28th-

Team MANAGERS are responsible for contacting SPLL (or designating ONE parent usually the Team Parent) to find out the status of their game and communicate this back to each team member. Please make sure your manager knows the best way to reach you on game day to inform you of any changes. If everyone tries to contact SPLL themselves then the line will be tied up and overloaded nobody will be able to get through.

Every effort will be made to update this website with current weather information. So please check this website one last time before heading out to the fields when the weather is questionable.

1) All games will be postponed when Tornado Warnings or Severe Thunderstorm Warnings are in effect for our area during a scheduled game time. Also, the field director on duty will postpone games when lightning is in the area.

2) The League will attempt to make a decision by 4:00 PM on weekdays. If the weather turns bad after 4:00 PM, decisions about game postponement will be made at the fields at game time.

3) Interleague games scheduled at non-SPLL fields will be postponed according to that host field's policies. Managers will be contacted directly by the host league in these cases.

4) ONLY the SPLL President, Vice-President or Properties Director will determine if field conditions warrant game postponement.
