Cubs win thier 1st playoff game!

Wow, that was a heart stopper tonight boys!  Congrats on pulling off the win and congrats to the Rockies on a great game and season.  They gave us all we could handle tonight.

I know I haven't been making game summary updates, but for this one, I had to.  You guys hung in there when you were down and scratched back into the lead, then held on for dear life!

Lots of great plays tonight.  Shane, George, Nick and Jack did great work on the mound and all kept us in this tight one.  Great catch from Jeremy behind the plate, great catch at first by Nick on a hot smash, and a HUGE catch by Joseph in right field!!  I love seeing you guys making those plays.

At the plate, we had some big hits and some very good, heads up baserunning.  The bats took a little while to come alive, but alive they came in that fifth inning!  Great baserunning by Shane and Nick on that infield fly that got away.

Ok, so we do have some improvements to make, and we need to do it quick.  No more throwing the ball around like we did in that first inning.  Get the ball in to the middle of the diamond quickly and hit your cutoffs.  Everyone has a job to do on every play.  No watching.  Like I always tell you guys, the parents are there to watch.  You guys play, and that means backing up throws and covering bases!  Another thing I told you again tonight is very simple.  You can't hit the ball if you don't swing.  Makes sense right?  At one point we had the bases loaded with no outs and didn't score another run because we watched strike three go by 3 times in a row.  If that wasn't bad enough, we continued it into the next inning, making it 5 in a row that we watched the called third strike.  Some of those pitches might have been less than perfect, but with 2 strikes, you have to be ready to take a hack!  Better yet, don't let it get to a 2 strike count and you don't have to worry about it!

Ok, so we are probably playing the Brewers on Saturday.  Game time is at 12:00pm, so be at the field by 11:30am at the latest.  If you can get any swings in before the game, that would be great.  I am planning on being at the cages on Friday night at 6:30pm, so if you want to come down and take some hacks, please do!  If you can get down there at another time, do it!  We need to get hot against those Brewers.  They are a tough team and will be ready for us!  We just need to hit and play good defense and the rest will take care of itself.  Great win tonight, so enjoy it!

Cubs lose a close one to the Astros

Nice game today guys.  We just need to get swinging the bats again.  We only had 3 clean hits on Friday night, and just 2 today against the Astros.  Luckily, your pitching and defense was good enough to keep us in the game.  Shane, Jack and Nolan pitched really well by just throwing stikes.  Nice job guys!

We will be practicing Sunday morning at 8:30 at Elmer Raymond Field.  Let's get those bats going!

Cubs and Dodger Duel to a Tie

Wow, what a game tonight guys!  We were close to our 5th win, but the Dodgers came storming back.  If not for a great relay from Alex, to George, to Jeremy to nail the would be winning run at home, we would have lost this one.  Instead, a tie it was!  The Dodgers made a similar relay from their rightfielder to their shortstop, then home to nab our running an inning earlier.  Great game by both teams.

George, Nick and Nolan all did a great job out there tonight on the mound.   We get back at it tomorrow morning against the Astros.  See you at 8am!

Monday, May 4
Cubs prevail against the Rockies

Great game tonight guys.  You all played great and all were into the game the whole time.  I told you that if you focus on where the ball is going before you get it, you will do great.  What a night of defense by the Cubs!

Shane pitched a great game by throwing strikes and making the Rockies hit the ball.  They did, but you all made the plays when you needed to.  We didn't give up that one big inning and it turned into a great 19-5 win!

Enjoy the rest of the week and I will see everyone at the field on Saturday afternoon at 2:45pm.
