Parent Letter
v It is my great privilege to manage the team. I look forward to getting to know you all and to working with your sons. My goals are simple. I want the boys to improve individually, to improve as a team, and to have a great baseball season. I am a firm believer in positive coaches, positive players, and positive parents.
v Parents have already begun asking how they can help. Thank you for your support and willingness to get involved! There are many things you can do to help. Feel free to contact me at any time if you wish to help.
v I strongly encourage you to get to know one another and to cheer on each other’s kids at every game. A unified group of energetic, cheering parents in the stands can have an extraordinary impact on their kids in the field. I have seen parents, friends, and family members unite in the stands to energize lethargic teams, cheer on slumping hitters, inspire rallies, etc. You have the power to make all the YAC players feel like champions at every game, regardless of whether they win or lose.
v I ask that you support our sportsmanlike conduct rule. Unsportsmanlike behavior may result in reduced playing time. Players, coaches and parents alike represent South Plymouth Little League. We will not allow players to behave or speak in any manner which is unsportsmanlike, including: temper tantrums on the field or in the dugout; bat or helmet throwing; berating other players for making mistakes; criticizing umpires, etc. Please remember that all cheering must be positive for both teams on the field!
v Some of you have asked me what the playing time rules are. In the SPLL Major League, every player plays 3 defensive innings and gets 1 at-bat, except the player who is the designated EH (extra hitter) for the game. The EH hits but does not play defensively. The batting order does not include the whole team (as it did in the American or National League).
v The Major League is South Plymouth’s most competitive division. YAC will perform at peak level – and morale will remain high - if all team members make the same commitment to one another and to the team as a whole. Please make every effort to have your son make all practices and games on time. Unscheduled absences are disruptive to the team and may result in reduced playing time. If a player will be unable to make a practice or game, please notify me in advance.
v A final word about the coaching staff, scorekeeper, and the Team Mom... I am - we all are - very lucky to have the support of a wonderful group of talented people who have chosen to give unselfishly of their time, their energy, and their expertise. Each of them brings something different and very special to the table, and each of them is dedicated to making this season a positive and productive experience for your boys. Please take the time to introduce yourselves to them, and to thank them for their efforts.
Again, thank you for your support. I look forward to a great season!
