Old information that may no longer be current:

South Maryland Little League - is a chartered affiliate of Little League Baseball, Inc. of Williamsport, PA (www.littleleague.org) and has been serving central Anne Arundel County for 13 years. We are a nonprofit organization serving 450 youths playing T-Ball through Little League Juniors.

We are community-neutral, focus solely on baseball, and are not managed by any other athletic association.

Our players hail from Annapolis, Bowie, Crofton, Davidsonville, Edgewater, Gambrills, Harwood, Mayo, Riva, South River, and elsewhere. We provide a quality youth baseball program that focuses on teaching the skills of America's Pastime and also helps the young people of our communities learn to work together as a team, develop individual leadership skills and increase their self confidence. Many of our kids join together to attend well respected local summer camps and Little League Summer Camp in Williamsport, PA. We have developed players who have gone on to play at the high school level.

Our baseball players have won many awards that include:

We are staffed entirely by volunteers who are dedicated to creating the best quality program possible for the children, and we need your help to continue this tradition. All funds are generated through fees, fundraisers, business and community support like your own.

Our adults attend clinics in the fall and winter for organization and team management, coaching, rules and umpiring, and enjoy the social side at after game parties, our Spring Gala and play on adult baseball and softball teams together.

League Terms:

Tee Ball & Coach Pitch - is for children between 4 through 6 years of age that starts in early April. This is a fun league for parents and children.

Machine Pitch(Rookie) - (7-8 years old) The players are introduced to baseball concepts and each batter is given an opportunity to hit against a machine pitch.

Minors - (9-10 years old) baseball is the first 'kid' pitch game. Minor League plays Little League rules with some modifications. Players pitch and develop a higher level of skills with emphasis on development. The Minor League season typically runs from early March through early June.

Little League - (also known as Majors or 11-12 years old) A competative league , emphasis is both on development as well as competativeness. Little League is generally governed by 'Major League' rules and incorporates most of the rules and thus true baseball excitement is everywhere. The Little League season typically runs from early March through early June.

Junior League - The Junior League Baseball Division (new for 2010) is a program for ages 13-14, using a conventional 90-foot diamond with a pitching distance of 60 feet, 6 inches. The local league has an option to choose a Tournament Team (or "All Stars") of 13-14 year-olds from within this division, and the team may enter the International Tournament. The culmination of the International Tournament is the Junior League Baseball World Series, featuring teams from around the globe.
