South Maryland Little League: Welcome
Our players hail from Annapolis, Crofton, Davidsonville, Edgewater, Gambrills, Harwood, Mayo, Riva and South County. We provide a quality youth baseball program that focuses on teaching the skills of America's Pastime and also helps the young people of our community learn to work together as a team, develop individual leadership skills and increase their self confidence. Many of our kids join together to attend well respected local summer camps and Little League Summer Camp in Williamsport, PA. We have developed players who have gone on to play at the high school level.

We are staffed entirely by volunteers who are dedicated to creating the best quality program possible for the children, and we need your help to continue this tradition. All funds are generated through fees, fundraisers, business and community support like your own.
Our adults attend clinics in the fall and winter for organization and team management, coaching, rules and umpiring, and enjoy the social side at after game parties, our Spring Gala and play on adult baseball and softball teams together.
Graduates of our program have stayed together and have played AA county 14U and Joe E. Brown 16U ball. Our recent graduates have made us proud by securing the following first-ever 14U championships:

The 14U team included SMLL alumni Gavin Fidanza, Dominic French, Jake Gratz, Matt Petrik, Nick Raimondo, Zach Rowe, Pierce Tyrrell, and Gabe Vertucci and were joined by Scott Boardman, Alex Bouffard, James Dickie, and John McDonald. The manager was Andy Petrik and coaches were Jim Gratz and Bob Rowe. This team also stayed together and played 16U Joe E. Brown summer ball.
Congratulations to graduates Steven Ridings, Zach Rowe, Gabe Vertucci and to James Dickie for being selected for the very competitive Joe E. Brown 16U All-Star team and to Pierce Tyrrell for being selected for the Little League Senior Division 14U All-Star team at Williamsport Summer Camp.
League Terms:
Tee Ball & Coach Pitch is for children between 4 through 6 years of age that starts in early April. This is a fun league for parents and children.
Machine Pitch (7-8 years old) The players are introduced to baseball concepts and each batter is given an opportunity to hit against a machine pitch.
Minors (9-10 years old) baseball is the first 'kid' pitch game and modified baseball rules allows for real game excitement.
Little League (also known as Majors or 11-12 years old) is generally governed by 'Major League' rules and incorporates most of the rules and thus true baseball excitement is everywhere.

The calendar on this website has been updated with the dates of the 2010 events so that you can plan your schedules now for things like registraton, evaluations, opening day, team pictures, the fantastic Gala for parents, our local tournament, closing day and All-Stars.

The South Maryland Little League (SMLL) 11-12 year old All-Stars finished fourth in the Maryland State Championships, the best performance in the organizations 12-year history. After taking its District 4 championship by storm, outscoring their opponents 63-2 (giving up only 7 hits and winning all four games by the 10-run mercy rule), South Maryland entered the double elimination state tournament eager to prove itself.
South Maryland’s first win came against the Homerun Baker Little League from Trappe, Maryland. The team won 7-1 on an outstanding pitching performance by Jeff Patterson. Patterson pitched a complete game allowing only one hit in the last inning while striking out nine. Strong defensive performances were seen by Michael Labs and Stephen D’Onofrio behind the plate. Cameron Fitzgerald and Travis Wood both had put-outs from third base while Daniel Morrison did not allow a ball to get by him at second base. Out fielders Jake Vermillion and Tommy Galvin each made catches on the run. South Maryland batters did the rest led by Chris Jeletic who went 2 for 3 with an RBI and Michael Kalin who was 2 for 4 and 2 RBIs.
Perhaps the highlight of the tournament was the team’s second victory against West Salisbury. As recently as two year’s ago, the West Salisbury Little League organization won the Maryland State Championship, followed by the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship, advancing that team as one of only eight U.S. teams to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA. This year’s game would be a rematch for a loss that South Maryland suffered in last year’s 10 –11 All-Star state tournament against a West Salisbury team.
The night game under the lights opened in shaky fashion for South Maryland as they went scoreless in the top of the first inning while West Salisbury started hot by batting nine batters in the bottom of the first. South Maryland, led by pitcher Jake Donaldson, would eventually shutdown West Salisbury’s offense in the inning, forcing them to leave three runners stranded and limiting their lead to 3-0.
The second inning saw strong defensive performances by both teams as neither could score a run.
But in the top of the third, South Maryland bats came alive against West Salisbury. Colin White and Donaldson both started the inning with doubles making the score 3-1. Tommy Galvin then bunted. West Salisbury's pitcher fielded the ball but was late and wild on his throw, sailing the ball into the fence down the right field line. Third base coach Tom Galvin aggressively kept the runners going forcing West Salisbury’s first baseman to throw the ball wildly to third base. The ball would enter the West Salisbury dugout, allowing both Donaldson and Galvin to score. South Maryland’s offensive assault would continue with singles by Patterson and Jeletic, a double over the centerfielder’s head by Fitzgerald, and an automatic trip to first base for Morrison after being hit by a pitch. Lightning would delay the inning by another 20 minutes before West Salisbury would get the final out, leaving South Maryland up 6-3.
Manager Jim Jeletic then brought White in to pitch for South Maryland in the bottom of the third inning. Patiently White worked the corners of the strike zone with fastballs and off-speed pitches, giving up only one run in both the third and fourth innings.
Going into the bottom of the last inning trailing 6-5, West Salisbury batters mounted one last effort to win the game. White struck out the first batter but the next batter singled to left field. South Maryland then fielded another out but two more singles followed loading the bases. With two outs and a 1 and 2 count on a left-handed West Salisbury batter, White threw a pitch that would be sliced to left field. As it came down curving toward the left field line, South Maryland left fielder Kalin reached out on the run and snagged the ball, falling to his knees while securing the victory for his team. The win put South Maryland in the semifinals and eliminated West Salisbury from the tournament.
South Maryland’s two losses came to Conococheague and Brunswick, the state champions from the previous two years (Conococheague would go on to win this year’s state championship). In their final game against Brunswick, South Maryland’s pitching and defense were excellent. Pitchers Kalin and Jeletic struck out nine while they and the defense held last year’s state championship team to three runs on three hits – Brunswick had scored 31 runs on 29 hits in its previous three games. However, South Maryland could only manage five hits of their own against an outstanding pitching performance by Brunswick and would be outscored 3-0.
That game eliminated South Maryland from the tournament. But their overall strong performance at both the district and state levels while finishing as the fourth best team in the state of Maryland has produced fond lasting memories for a dozen 12 year-old little League Baseball players that had a spectacular season.

The South Maryland Little League (11-12) All-Stars ran away with the Maryland District 4 tournament winning in convincing fashion. The All-Stars went undefeated outscoring their opponents by a combined run total of 63 to 2 and won all their games by the ten-run mercy rule. Their pitchers did not allow an earned run and gave up only seven hits in four games.
South Maryland Little League All-Stars include Stephen D’Onofrio, Jake Donaldson, Cameron Fitzgerald, Tommy Galvin, Chris Jeletic, Michael Kalin, Michael Labs, Daniel Morrison, Jeff Patterson, Jake Vermillion, Colin White, and Travis Wood. The All-Stars are managed by Jim Jeletic and coached by Tom Galvin.
The team was one of eight that competed for the Maryland State Championship starting July 25th in Waldorf, MD and finished with a ranking of 4th in state! Thank you all who came to cheer them on.

South Maryland Minors 9-10 All-Star team won the Maryland District 4 championship on July 2, beating Arbutus Little League, 7-4, in the title game. South Maryland went undefeated in the tournament, while outscoring their opponents 31-16 in the games.
The title game was a hard fought pitcher’s duel between South Maryland and Arbutus with Nick Vermillion pitching a masterful four innings, followed by Nick Bennett who threw the final two innings. The offense was provided by Timmy O’Farrell (2-4 3 RBI), Greg D’Onofrio (2-3 2 RBI), Gabe Campbell (2-5 1 RBI), Nick Perkins (2-4), Ross Owens (1-3 1 RBI), Cody Jordan (1-3), Daniel Granzow (1-2). Throughout the tournament South Maryland displayed stellar defense, in the championship game they played error free baseball, lead by Brad Marceron, Seamus Galway, Alex Cordon and a brilliant running catch for the final out by Nick Boogades.
The District 4 champion South Maryland 9-10 All-Stars advanced to the state tournament which was held in Willards Maryland starting Saturday July 18. South Maryland is made up of players from Davidsonville, Riva, Mayo, Edgewater, Harwood, Lothian, Crofton and Annapolis.
