South Lyon Travel Basketball League: Welcome
South Lyon Travel Basketball 2014-2015 Season
South Lyon Travel Basketball - is an organization for boys 4th grade thru 8th grade. As our mission statement says, our purpose is to prepare boys for high school basketball and life’s challenges. We do this both on and off the court by creating a passion for the game, emphasizing player development through teamwork and transferring the lessons learned from the basketball to the game life. All coaches are interviewed, screened, and have background checks. They are also required to follow the COACHES CODE OF CONDUCT that can be found under the forms tab on our website.
Tryouts - are held at the high schools (see the below information) and may take a few days. Multiple teams will be formed for each grade level based on talent level and participation. All boys are NOT guaranteed to make a team. They will be evaluated by the coaching staff and board members during the ENTIRE tryout period. Unfortunatley, NOT all boys are guranteed to make a team. If any cuts are to be made they will be during the tryouts and in person with at least 2 coaches in attendance. Once the the final cuts are made, the teams will be announced and practice schedules will be publised. All practices are held at South Lyon schools and will be 2-3 days a week depending on grade and gym availability.
Fundraiser - SLTB only has one fundraiser throughout the season called the SHOOT-A-THON. This is where all the players get together at the high school and shoot 100 free throws each. The players get pledges based on the number of free-throws made. Prizes are awarded for each grade based on the most money raised and highest number of free throws made. After the shoot-a-thon, all the teams will head to a college game (possibly U of D this year) and participate in halftime festivities. IT’S A BLAST!
League play - SLTB plays in the Big Cat Basketball league located right here in South Lyon. Although a travel program, South Lyon Schools hosts the most of the games during the season so travel is minimal. Games are scheduled on Sunday afternoons (usually double headers). The league runs from December through March (depending on grade) with the Rumble in the Jungle tournament at the end of the season.
Stop in at South Lyon East High School or South Lyon High School on a Sunday afternoon and check out the Action!
