The number of the events that your child will be swimming in will be written on their hand. Parents then can write these numbers down for their own use. These numbers correspond to the meet event order, which is located in the team manual and also available at meets. Swimmers should then go to the locker rooms to get dressed and then meet on the pool deck area. No swimmers should enter the water until the coaches have instructed them to do so.

It is very important to arrive at meets on time. The swimmers need time to check-in, get dressed and report on deck for warm-ups. The coaches need time to make any last minute changes to line-ups if a swimmer does not show. It is essential to contact the coaches as soon as possible if your swimmer is signed up but is unable to attend a meet or if you are delayed and will be late (being late is arriving after 5:00pm).  If a swimmer is late, they risk being scratched from the meet!  You must do the following in order to participate in a meet:

  • Sign and return the Team Rules and Code of Conduct form found on page 21 of the team manual
  • Sign and return the Swimmer Emergency form found on pages 22-23 of the team manual
  • Register for the Sea Lions program at the South Lyon Recreation office
  • Complete the Meet Participation form (via e-mail)
All forms are available in the file box (or can be access via the 'Handout' page).  The file box will be available at South Lyon East in the ready room (down the stairs from the pool balcony) during all practices. All completed forms should be returned to the appropriate folder in the same file box. A Meet Participation form needs to be completed for each meet (via e-mail), even if your swimmer is not participating. A list is made from these responses of all swimmers participating in the meet, which the coaches then use to make the line-up. They must be returned by the deadline identified in the e-mail. Your swimmer will find out which events he or she will be swimming at check-in time at the meet. Meets are over when all events are completed or by 8:00pm, whichever happens first. If a meet is running long, the coaches from both teams will decide if they want to extend the time past 8:00pm and finish the events. When a swimmer is done with all of their events, they may get dressed and find their parents in the stands or parents can wait for their swimmers outside of the locker rooms. Swimmers may stay and cheer on their teammates, but are not required to stay until the end of the meet. Ribbons will be placed in the file box to be picked up at practice.        Swimmers should bring the following items to meets:
  • Team swimsuit
  • Swim Cap (optional)
  • Googles
  • 2 towels (one to dry off with and one to sit on)
  • warm clothes to wear between events
  • food and drinks (most meets have concession stands, food is NOT allowed on deck or in locker rooms)
