2007 Playoff Format
The American and National Divisions will have SEPARATE playoffs, and this information applies to each of them.
- Playoffs are scheduled to begin on Saturday, August 4, 2007 barring any weather-related issues that cause us to extend the regular season.
- In both Divisions, every team with .500 record or better qualifies for the playoffs. Division president Lloyd Terry reserves the right to add next highest record team if deemed beneficial to get even number of teams into the playoff.
- If an ODD number of teams qualify, or if there are SIX qualifying teams, there will be first-round byes awarded as needed. Therefore, if FIVE teams make it, we believe that it would be #4 vs #5 in the first round, with #1, #2 and #3 receviing a bye. With SIX teams qualifying, it would #3 vs #6 and #4 vs #5 in the first round, with #1 and #2 getting the bye.
- Each round is best two of three from there with the matchups of the highest seed playing the lowest seed from there on out. The Championship Series may be a best-of-five series. Details on that to follow.
- Games are on Saturdays AND Sundays during the playoffs.
- Records posted to the web site as of midnight July 29 are official (unless exception specifically granted by Division President or Board). Points determine order of finish for playoff seeding.
Tie-breakers are as follows:
- Head to head
- Run differential of head to head
- Run differential of total season
- Coin toss
There will be no "Best-of-the-Rest" tournament this season. Instead, we encourage teams to join us in the 2007 SJMSBL Fall League, which will begin in early September once playoffs are completed.
