South High Baseball: Welcome

The 1st game of the El Segundo varsity tournament between Redondo and South at Spartan Field went 8 innings with Aki Yamamoto scoring on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 8th inning for a 5-4 victory.  Redondo went up 3-0 in the top of the 1 st but the Spartans fought back with a game-tying 2 RBI double by Chris Aldape and almost stole the game in the bottom of the 7th when Mike Esparza was called out on a straight steal in a close play at the plate. Matt Borgialli, Alex Hernandez, RJ Cunnigham and Ryan Carmona combined to hold the Seahawks to 1 run over the last 7 innings.  RJ came in and retired 12 of 13 batters in his 4 innings of work.  It was a great win for the Spartans against a strong Redondo team and their ace who pitched all 8 innings.

 The Freshmen hosted Downey High and also won 8-2.  The freshmen played an all-around great game that was highlighted by Teruya Okada's grand slam to right center in the bottom of the 1st.
