Hudson, Barbara Hamilton
The U10 Flame finished 2nd in the Barbara Hamilton Tournament this past weekend in Hudson, NH. The girls played some amazing softball including a 1-0 victory over the host team and Regional ASA Champion Hudson Heat in a 7 inning errorless game. The Hudson girls got some good hits including 5 to the outfield but the Flame outfielders kept every outfield hit to a single. Mo Hannan threw 13 strikeouts in the victory. On Sunday, the Flame faced Hudson again in the Championship Game. Hudson won that game with a terrific pitching but Mo also threw another 15 strikeouts herself! It was a great weekend and the U10 girls should be very proud of their accomplishment!

Firecat Frenzy - Groton
The 2004 Southern Maine Flame 10U team was made up of 6 girls from Scarborough, 3 from Biddeford, 1 from Arundel and 1 from Pownal. On the weekend of June 13 we took a trip to Groton, Massachusetts to compete in the Firecat Frenzy. After practicing together since October it was the first tournament for us. We played in 4 games over the weekend. In the Championship Game on Sunday we faced a team from Shrewsbury that had not lost all weekend. In fact, that same team had crushed us 15-0 on Saturday afternoon. I was so proud of my girls to not let that get them discouraged as we headed into the big game. In the first inning we jumped all over them with a 2 out-2 RBI shot to left field by my daughter, Mariah. The Shrewsbury Shockers were in shock seeing this team from Maine that was soundly defeated the day before get more runs off them in one inning than they had given up all weekend. After one inning it was 5-0. They were in shock but they were a solid team and did not give up. Seven innings later, the score was tied 7-7. In the bottom of the 8th inning, with 2 outs and a girl on 2nd base, they hit a little blooper over my pitcher's head. By the time it dribbled to 2nd base and anyone reached it the girl from 2nd base was coming around 3rd base and heading home. We didn't even have time to get a throw in on her. She scored, we lost. Abbie Hutchinson picthed all 8 innings in an incredible display of guts and competitiveness. When asked how she felt after 7 complete innings she replied, without hesitation, "Give me the ball coach, I'm fine." It was a very exciting weekend. After the game, they all remained focused on what a great job they did and how much fun we had over the weekend. I was so proud of them!
