Mission Statement: The Southeastern Hornets Basketball program seeks to develop youths to reach their highest potential on and off the court. The program focuses on academic excellence in the classroom. Our student athletes are surrounded with positive role models and coaches that have the highest integrity and sincere dedication to the youths in our community.
History: In 2007, Coach Carlton Jones and 6 youths of the Phenix-Russell Boys and Girls Club were invited to start up the newly formed Georgia Stars of Columbus, Georgia. The 11 & under team consisted of 9 players, 6 from Phenix City and 3 from Columbus, Georgia. The following year, the team added two more players from Phenix City, Alabama and qualified to compete in the YBOA Nationals held in Orlando, Florida. The 12 & under team played games daily for 7 days and won all their games. They made it to the National Championship game and lost by 4 points. The team was ranked #2 in the Nation for 12 year olds. In 2009, Coach Jones and 5 original members from Phenix City decided to split with the Georgia Stars organization.
The Southeastern Hornets Basketball Program was established in mid-season of 2009 by Coach Carlton Jones. The program consists of youths from Phenix City and Russell County. Coach Jones selected Ms. Cassandra Lindsey as team manager for the Southeastern Hornets. Coach Reginald Ballard was added as an assistant coach. The newly formed Southeastern Hornets quickly secured a bid to play at the highly competitive AAU Nationals in Memphis, Tennessee. The competiton at the AAU level proved to be challenging for the new Hornets. However, they were able to successfully make it out of pool play at Nationals, but were eliminated in bracket play. The experience made them stronger and closer as a team and family. They gained valuable experience playing with the best talent of athletes in the country.
