South Dayton Sting: Welcome

South Dayton Sting Baseball Club Mission Statement:

The South Dayton Sting is a select baseball program for young men from the Dayton, Ohio, area. The Sting teaches fundamental baseball principles and strives to see incremental skill improvements from all involved. It is our mission to tutor players in an environment which stresses competiton, fun, sportsmanship, and work ethic. The ultimate goal of the Sting is to produce quality young men ready to play the game of baseball at the highest levels. We currently have teams competing at the 8U, 9U, 10U, 11U, 12U, 13U, 14U, and 15U levels. Play will resume in the spring of 2012 in the MWOBL and tournaments TBA nationwide.

Announcements:   

05/29/2012

• There will be open tryouts held on Thursday, May 31st at 6pm (registration starts at 5:45pm) for anyone who is interested in playing for the 8U Sting team next year. These are initial player evaluations, the goal is to get enough players rostered by the end of June that we can put that team in some late season 8U tournaments this year. Also, there is a strong possibility that there will be a Sting 7U team next year which will play up for one year and then return in 2014 as an 8U team. All player evaluations will be held at the home of the Sting Baseball Club which is the First Church of God Sports Complex.

 

• The 2012 version of the Dayton Sting/Americana Festival Summer Smash is filling up fast. 8U and 9U have two openings. 10U and 15U are now full, 14U has one/maybe two openings. Each age group will maximize at twelve teams. To find an entry form or see a list of the teams that are coming, click on the Summer Smash Info./Other Forms link on the left side of this page.

 

• All rosters are now posted! The following teams still have openings for the right player, 9U, 10U Gold, 12U, 14U, and 15U. The 9U team which finished first in their division of the Midwest Ohio Baseball League is looking to add one or two really strong players to an already potent lineup for next season. Please contact Tim Dunaway for a potential tryout opportunity.

 

• Important dates to keep in mind for 2012:
  • Week of January 2nd-Winter workouts start
  • March 1st-Remaining player fees are due
    •  $300.00 per player at the 8U level 
    •  $400.00 per player at the 9U through 12U levels
    •  $500.00 per player at the 13U level and above
  • March 18th-Meet and Greet
  • March 24th-Picture Day 
  • April 21st-Sting Night with the Dayton Dragons
  • June 29th thru July 1st-Americana Festival/Sting Baseball Club Summer Smash

Directions to First Church of God:

1. Take I-75 to the State Route 725 Exit (Exit 44 at the Dayton Mall) 2.Take St. Rt. 725 West until you reach Heinke Rd. (a couple of miles) 3. Go right on Heinke Rd (North) 4.The First Church of God Ballpark is about 1/2 mile north of SR 725 on the left. The entrance is the first entrance past the Kroger parking lot on the left. There are two fields at the complex.

• Thanks to all those teams that participated in the 2011 Americana Festival/Sting Baseball Club Summer Smash. We look forward to an even better event in 2012 and hope you decide to play your 4th of July tournament baseball in Centerville, Ohio again. Also, thanks a thousand times over to the volunteers who worked very hard to make this event a huge success. 

    

• We are continually looking to upgrade our teams at all age levels! Please contact the club coordinator to schedule a private evaluation session! 

 

• If you need directions to a particular away ballpark they can be found on the MWOBL website at www.midwestohiobaseball.com! It is strongly recommended that you save this site under your favorites and use it. The directions are listed under the tab which says "field directions".

 

• Private individual tryouts for any Sting team can be scheduled by calling the club coordinator at (937)546-6946 for more details. The home of the Sting Baseball Club is the First Church of God Sports Complex on Heincke Road in Miamisburg. Directions to the facility can be found on the Midwest Ohio Baseball League site. 

                                                                                  

• A few insights for moving around and finding information on the Sting site. Each age group has their own section with all applicable games and practices listed on the top of this page. Directions to various parks can be found under locations on this site or on the MWOBL website which is listed under the links tab. Also, you can access your specific team information (eg. roster, stats, schedule, etc.) by clicking on the drop down box in each category and selecting the team you want. Any questions contact Coach Tim anytime. 

 

• Corporate donations: The South Dayton Sting receives about half the money it takes to operate select baseball teams from corporate sponsorships. Companies and individuals who would like to help out financially are encouraged to contact the appropriate age group coordinator. Any corporation, business, or individual who donates a minimum of $250.00 receives the following in exchange. Name on the website under the sponsors section, name on the team banner, framed team picture, thank you letter, and a follow-up letter. If you know someone who has interest in becoming a donor for the Sting please have them contact the relevant age group sponsor representative, Tim Dunaway (8U), Scott Whitesell (9U), Matt Sundermann (10U Black), Tim Dunaway (10U Gold), Jim Yerkins (11U), Ryan Sullivan (12U), Mike Conley (13U), Ryan Swaney (14U), and Tim Dunaway (15U). We can use financial help any time of the year.

 

• Fundraisers-Any suggestions and/or help would be greatly appreciated! The Sting would like to extend a thank you to our partner during the the 2009, 2010, and 2011 Americana/Summer Smash tournaments. Our partner in presenting the event is the Centerville-Washington Township Americana Festival. We are grateful to have their assistance the past three years and look forward to working with them this year.

Kettering Athletic Scholarship Fund:

The South Dayton Sting Baseball Club contributed $1900.00 from the 2011 Summer Smash tournament to the scholorship fund in Joe's name. 

Community Service:

The Sting Baseball Club in partnership with the Americana Festival committee will put on the Summer Smash baseball tournament June 29th thru July 1st, 2012. This tournament is a big draw and will bring in teams from all over the Midwest. The event is also an opportunity to showcase the fine park system that Centerville and Washington Township have in place. We look forward to hosting this event every year and strengthening our relationship with the parties listed above.
