Meeting Notes 3/9/09
Area Leader Overview
Thurs night thru Sunday. Stayed in the dorms. Thurs night…socialize and met new area leaders. Fri…visit with 4 areas of the school. Sat… obedience walk with some dogs being evaluated. Each area did a 15 minute presentation on their group. Great Food and networking.
Bob
4 Stations on Friday (Vet Tech/Kennels/Breeding Dept/Trainers)
Bob to talk a little on each area. More elaboration on the time spent with the trainers and us working a dog in harness that has been in training since November.

Bone Game – the following numbers were listed on bones up on the wall and puppy raisers were asked to guess what the numbers represented.
$112,936.32 - $’s paid to the Animal Specialty group
$6,285.13 - $’s paid to medical emergency group (Bone Scans,MRI’s)
$24,659.33 - $’s paid to Idex for Lab work
$38,741.16 - $’s paid for puppy raiser reimbursements
41 – Graduates for 2008
53 – Dogs released from training for temperament
27 – Dogs released from Puppy Dept for temperament
36 – Dogs released for Medical reasons – Puppies in Training still with Puppy Raisers
122 – Dogs Turned in for training
117 – Dogs born in the nursery
21 – Donated Dogs
138 – Puppies placed with puppy raisers
Because of the expenses, the school will be asking more people to drive their dogs to GDA to be looked at by the Vet’s and Vet Tech’s and also for lab work and x-rays.
Do not limit water. Need to just watch puppies more and get them outside when necessary. It is bad for their health when water is withheld.
Talk about the importance of Kenneling
If get a group of 4 or 6 to go, Yvonne might do a van run
Pat King offering to drive dogs up for the day (over the next 4 weeks or so when she goes to work on baskets)

Be considerate when joining other groups. Not their responsibility to have us go if there are too many in attendance.
Documentary Film – GUIDED April 3/4th“168 Film Festival” in Glendale
We got to see the documentary while at the school. Follows Guide Dog In Training Tiga (Lex & Sophia’s sister) and her puppy raising family from turn out to turn in. They would like people with dogs to attend judging. Nancy will send trailer out to everyone and more info to follow as we get more!
Partners Dinner – Oct 3rd They need high end donations. (Best one last year was a trip to the Reagan's Ranch!) No Art (We don’t have that type of people attending that would appreciate it.)
Silent Auction/Live Auction 10 people fills a table. Cost is $150 per person. (If you start saving this week at $6.50 a week you will have $156 saved by 5 weeks before the event!!) Returning to Ronald Reagan museum. Honorees…..the Charity League and your very own Area Leaders …Brian & Nancy Matthews.

Obedience Class – March 28th
O.C. Pet Fair – April 17/18/19
South Bay day is Friday April 17th. Need volunteers to work the booth. If in the booth, must have a dog. Dogs attending the fair must by 9 Mo + We will be sending out a request for sign ups shortly with the hours available.
Bowlathon – April 26th. Lane Banner ($200) Sponsorship sheets. Raffle Flyer to be sent to puppy raisers beginning of this week.
Ride 4 Guides May 17th
Need help passing out flyers to solicit more riders. They will also be looking for volunteers to help that day so put it on your calendar.
Open House
Quilt Tickets. We have them available. $2 ea or 6 for $10
Support Craft Booth with nice homemade crafts. (Not schlocky stuff!!)
Kissing Booth – Will be asking for sign ups
Lorrie Needs help with topics for the newsletter
Meri Forman to speak at April Meeting. Give list of questions for her.
Meeting is April 13th
Be there at 6:30 as Meri will start early to get home early.
