SOUTH BAY LITTLE LEAGUE SAFETY GUIDELINES FOR PARENTS

SAFETY IS EVERYONE’S JOB - PREVENTION IS THE KEY!

The following safety guidelines outline safe practices and behavior to follow to help protect your children during their participation with South Bay Little League (SBLL). Although our league tries to provide a safe environment for everyone involved, not every situation can be anticipated. Cooperation and participation by everyone is necessary to implement and maintain an ongoing safety program. Prevention is the key to reducing accidents and keeping them to a minimum. Report all suspected hazardous conditions immediately.

·        Alcohol and drug use at a SBLL event, or coming to an event under the influence is strictly prohibited.

·        Smoking is not allowed in the bleachers, dugouts, fields, and bathrooms or near the snack bar.

·        Adults are required to use extreme caution and drive very slowly in the parking lots. SBLL is not responsible for any loss or damage to vehicles. Park at your own risk!

·        Bicycle riders must wear helmets, use caution around pedestrians, and not ride or jump on the hills, stands or equipment.

·        Animals are not allowed on SBLL property during games, practices or other events.

·        Climbing on fences, trees, snack bar, storage buildings, backstops, and where posted is prohibited.

·        Parents should supervise their children at all times to prevent horseplay, fighting, pushing, shoving, climbing and other behaviors which may result in injury.

·        All participants and spectators are required to follow the SBLL Code of Conduct.

·        Medical Release forms must be completed and signed by a parent or guardian of each player in the event that an emergency arises and immediate parental consent cannot be obtained. Please inform your manager immediately of any changes in this information.

·        Parents must inform the manager of any medical condition, which may affect the safety or playing ability of the player, and must provide necessary medication at all events. ¨ For the protection of your child and the coaches, do not drop your child off at a practice or game unless there are at least two adults from your team present.

·        Pick your child up promptly from any practice or game or, better yet, stay and watch.

·        If your child walks or rides their bike, scooter or skateboard to practices or games, make sure to discuss safety issues with him/her and ensure that he/she is mature enough for this responsibility.

·        Parents shall provide their child with water and sunscreen.

·        No jewelry or metal objects may be worn by players during a game or practice. Exception: eyeglasses and medical alert tags.

·        Parents are encouraged to provide safety or impact resistant glasses to players who wear glasses.

·        No player can participate in a practice or game if wearing a cast, rigid brace, or split. Ace bandages and elastic braces (ankle, knee, and elbow) are acceptable provided they do not interfere with a player’s normal abilities to play.

·        A player with orthodontic braces is encouraged to wear a mouthpiece.

·         Players must use Little League approved equipment in good condition.
