24. Runner on second base; one out. The pitcher tries a pick-off, but no-one covers the bag. Rather than hold the ball, the pitcher throws to the shortstop, who is minding his own business at his regular fielding position. What is the correct ruling?


Balk. This is considered throwing to an unoccupied base


Balk. The pitcher didn't throw to a BASE in an attempt to retire the runner


Balk. This is actually considered an illegal pitch


Nothing. This is perfectly legal



25. No runners, two outs. The batter bunts towards third base, and dashes off to first. Because it's going to be a close play, the BR decides to slide into the bag head first. He reaches first safely, but after touching the bag with his hands, his momentum carries him past the base, and he ends up lying in fair territory, eight feet behind first base. The first baseman doesn't hesitate, and tags the BR immediately before he even had a chance to get up. What is the correct call?


The BR is safe


The BR is out for sliding into first


The BR is out because he is in fair territory

26. Runner on 2nd, two outs. While coming into the Set Position, the pitcher inadvertently knocks his hat off with his glove. However, he continues with his motion, comes to a stop, and pitches. The batter swings, but misses. What is the correct ruling?


Dead ball - no pitch, and start from scratch


Dead ball - no pitch; call a balk


Illegal pitch - call a "ball"


No call against the pitcher since he did nothing illegal



27. Runner on 3rd, one out. The batter pops the next pitch up over foul territory in the direction of the third base coach's box, and the third baseman races over. The third base coach is standing in the middle of the box, and doesn't move at all - not a single step. Just when the third baseman is about to make the catch, he collides with the coach, and one second later the ball drops untouched in the box. What is the correct ruling? 


No interference, the coach was in the box and the play stands


No interference, the coach didn't move toward the fielder and the play stands


Interference, the coach must vacate the area and the batter is called out
