Somerville Little League
Every so often an opportunity comes along with the potential to bring a strong positive impact. We are very pleased to announce that the board of directors has decided to partner with Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA), because we are convinced that this particular program has that potential. Positive Coaching Alliance is a non profit organization based at Stanford University whose mission is ?to transform youth sports so sports can transform youth.? PCA was created to change the culture of youth sports by replacing the "win-at-all-cost" coaching model with a "double-goal coach" model, whereby coaches want to win but have a second, more important goal of using sports to teach life lessons. Our board members, managers, coaches, and parents will all play a critical role in the implementation of this program. Our parent reps will also have a key role as "Culture Keepers" and help define "the way we do things here." If you would like to volunteer and help make this program a success in Somerville, please contact any board member. Please select the Positive Coaching Alliance menu option for more information. The Little League of Somerville is Recruiting Team Managers & Coaching Volunteers for the 2008 Playing Season Volunteers are needed at every level to help coach youth ages 5 through 16, which include: T-Ball, Farm, Minor/Major, and Junior/Senior League baseball, as well as Major & Senior Girls Softball. For more information contact either Joe Janeiro, Dan Scrima for Baseball, or Tim Hawkins for Softball. Background checks in order to help protect our youth are required. Attendance at our coaching clinics will be mandatory, and will be held in March of 2008. Our goal is to have each of our managers & coaches certified for this upcoming season. Please access our Manager/Coach Application Packet. Fill out the required forms, sign and enclose them with: a copy of a valid government issued photo identification, and a check for $20 (membership fee) made out to Little League of Somerville. The completed application along with the photo ID and the membership check should be mailed to the attention of Frank Quaratiello, Safety Officer, Little League of Somerville at the above address. Membership Drive is On! No, you don't need to be a manager or coach to be a member of the Little League of Somerville. We have many opportunities for parents, other family members and friends to participate in helping to make this upcoming season a success. There are several Subcommittees that are being formed to help plan for our 2008 season. These include our fundraising and sponsorship drives, registration and tryouts, planning our opening day parade & ceremonies, equipment maintenance & distribution. We even have an information technology subcommittee to help address our ever increasing technology needs. If you have any questions, please feel free to speak with any of our Board members. Our League's continued success depends on volunteers like you giving a bit of time to benefit more than 460 of our Somerville youth. This is your League ? Why not get involved in a fun and rewarding experience? Thanks to All of Our Sponsors Somerville Little League would like to thank all of Our Sponsors this past season for their continued support.
