Fall and Winter 2004-2005 News
The Southern Maryland Lady Steel entered teams in fall leagues for the first time in the fall of 2004, with 3 teams entering the junior varsity and varsity divisions of the Mt. Vernon fall league. The 13U, 12U, and 11U teams have entered the Montgomery County Rising Star League for the 4th straight season. Many of our older girls are playing high school ball this winter, with Westlake, LaPlata, and Patuxent High Schools heading the list. Congratulations to our Westlake girls who won the regional championship before bowing out in the State 3A semi-final. NATIONAL QUALIFIERS!
Congratulations to our 9U and 11U teams on qualifying for the national tournament with their excellent showings in the Maryland Regional tournament. The 9U may head to South Bend, IN and the 11U's will definitely be heading to Nashville, TN. Great job, girls!
93's Finish 2nd in Rising Star League
The Steel 93's finished 2nd in the 2005 Montgomery County Rising Star playoffs, losing a hard fought battle in the championship game which featured major foul trouble for several Steel players. Competing in a 27 team field, the girls are proud of their 2nd place finish, however. Congratulations, girls!

10U Qualifies for Division I National Tournament
The Lady Steel 10U team followed up its second place finish in its pool with an overall 4th place in the championship bracket of the MD AAU Association Tournament May 15th, falling by 1 point in the semi-final game, 22-21 on a last minute follow up shot by their opponent, the Sure Shots. With the 4th place finish, the team qualified for the National Division I Tournament in Orlando, FL. Way to go, girls!
15U Lady Steel Win MD AAU Shootout
Congratulations to the Lady Steel 15U team which won the MD AAU Association Shootout tournament May 9th to earn a berth to the National Division II Championships. The Ladies of Steel scored 4 straight wins in the single elimination tournament to take the shootout bracket title.
PLAYERS WANTED
The Southern MD Lady Steel program is always looking for committed players to add to their program. While most team rosters are set for AAU tournament play, we welcome players to practices and non-AAU events year round.
