INDIRECT KICK- GIVE AND GO OFF THE WALL

Description of Set Piece:

This set piece takes the work of three players. Two of your players line up directly in front of the wall. They should have their backs to the wall and facing the ball and the shooter. These two players should be positioned in the middle of the wall, so if it's a 4 man wall (1,2,3,4), your two offensive players should be standing in front of players 2 and 3. Your third player will be the shooter. He/she should be approximately 5 yards behind the ball and ready to strike it. As he/she approaches the ball one of your players sprints out of the wall and to one of the sides as if he/she were going to receive a pass from the shooter. This should draw some major attention. As the shooter actually touches the ball the other player, who is still in the wall, leaves the wall and runs towards the shooter and the ball. The shooter passes the ball off to this player, who in return one touch passes it to the shooters good side and sets him/her up for the shot. Because of the movement with the two offensive players in front of the wall, the wall will often react and separate a little bit. The wall will not completely disassemble, but it should open up just enough to allow some cracks and seams to the goal. The shooter now has a much bigger entry way to the goal. He/she can go around the wall or if mis-hit, he/she may even get through the wall. Either way the shooter should have a free and easy shot at goal.

What to look for Coaches:

The timing of this play is critical. The first player out of the wall should make his/her break approximately "One Mississippi" before the second player makes theirs. This will throw the defense off, now having to focus on two moving players. It is also extremely important for the player passing the ball back to the shooter that he/she makes a good one touch pass. It must be accurate and not too tough to hit. Practicing this set piece over and over again is it's key to success.
