3 VS 2 IN THE BOX

Place six to eight players around the edge of the penalty box, all with balls. Then put five athletes inside the penalty box and label 3 as offensive and 2 as defenders. The three offensive players should be spread out amongst the box making it difficult for the two defenders to successfully defend them. Once everyone is in position have one of the outside men play a ball into one of the offensive members.Using the Penalty area as a boundary zone, the three offensive players try and pass the around the two defendersand get the best possible shot off. Once they shoot or lose the ball to the defenders, another member from outside plays a ball in. This sequence is repeated until all of the six players from the outside have played their balls in to the offensive players. After the drill is over have the offensive players switch with other offensive players on your team and have the two defenders switch with two other defenders. Restart the drill now with the new batch of five inside the penalty box.
What to look for Coaches: This drill is so beneficial to everyone participating. The defenders work on closing off angles and working in pairs. The offensive players work on finding the open man, getting the quick shot off and using space to their advantage. This drill is truly a gem. Coaches should be making sure that the offensive players use ALL of the space provided. The closer the bunch together the easier it is for the defenders to guard them and protect their goal. To increase the intensity of this drill make a competition out of it. Every time the offensive players score they get a point. Every time the defenders steal the ball, or the goalie saves the offensive players shot the defense gets a point. This is a great way to get the athletes motivated to give 100% to an incredibly efficient and helpful drill.
