Question  Advice on balancing soccer and school
I have a tough time handling school by itself, and now that i'm in the High School not only is school getting harder but i'm going to be playing soccer too. Practice is 6 days a week and it runs until late. Any advice on how to handle this without failing soccer nor school?

Thanks.
Alanna

Time management! If School and Soccer are your primary focus, how much time are you wasting on other stuff?
What time do you go to bed? (Try 9:00 PM)
What time do you get up? (try 5:00 AM and work on your school work before school)
How late do you sleep in on the weekend?

My son was a sophmore in college and said he didn't have time to find a job. When I restructured his schedule he discovered he had 70 free hours a week he was wasting. This was after his class time and getting and average of 7.5 hours of sleep a night.

I'm not saying this is your problem,,,,but it would be a good place to start.
There are 168 hours in a week.
How do you use those hours?
Sleeping 56 hours @ 8 per night
School   56 calculating 7 am to 3 pm
Soccer   12 (2 hours a day 6 days a week)
That leaves you with 44 free hours for meals, homework, parties, friends family time, church. hobbies etc. even more time to do school work and soccer!

PA gives good advice above; I would add that discipline and keeping priorities straight is important as well.

As implied by PA, you may have to make sacrifices in other areas if academics and soccer are your top priorities. That may mean cutting back on social activities and/or relaxation.

You also might want to check into more efficient and effective study methods, especially if you are having problems academically now. A google search should be a good place to start. You also might want to approach some upperclassmen who you know balance academics and extra-curricular activities well. They could probably give you some practical advise.
