Summer Travel Baseball

Cougar Baseball is the summer travel team program affiliated with South Orange Maplewood Baseball. Competitive tryouts are held in the spring for ages 8 and above.  Summer league and tournament play begins in June and is typically over by the end of July. Each year some of our Cougar Baseball teams participate in the Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth local district tournaments, with the hope of advancing on the tournament track to the state and regional tournaments, and dream of a trip to the Cal Ripken Baseball World Series!

Players who participate in South Orange Maplewood spring baseball and are age 8-14 (as of April 30) are eligible to try out for Cougar Summer Baseball. Attached is an informational flyer about the summer program.

If your child is even thinking about trying out for summer travel baseball,pre-registration for “Spring Training & Tryouts” is required by March 1st. Pre-registration does NOT obligate your child to play summer baseball. However, this process will help us determine how many coaches/teams we will need for each age group. There is no cost for pre-registration and no obligation at this time.

To pre-register, simply go online to the same account you used to register your player for spring baseball HERE. Under the Recreation tab, select “Baseball-Summer” and then enroll in “Cougar Summer Baseball – Tryouts Pre-Registration”. That’s all that is required. (If you have trouble, call the South Orange Dept. of Recreation at 973-378-7754, ext. 2 and the staff will register you.)

Go Cougars! All players interested in trying out for summer baseball travel teams are invited to attend Spring Training & Tryouts. This 5-week program is designed to provide players with training, practice time and the opportunity to tryout, be observed and evaluated over an extended period of time. There is no obligation to attend all 5 Sunday sessions. However, teams will be selected after March 31st based on observations and evaluations of coaches and independent evaluators throughout the duration of the program.

To be eligible to participate in Spring Training & Tryouts, players must:
1) Be registered in SOM Baseball for Spring 2019
2) Be age 8-14 (as of April 30th)
3) Pre-register for “Cougar Baseball – Spring Training & Tryouts” (follow directions above)

All sessions will all be under the direction of Coach Chris Henry and our volunteer summer coaches.
