CLUB BONSAI

Advance Performance Program

Description

Club Bonsai is a division of the Sierra Nevada Volleyball Club dedicated to players between the ages of 11-14 seeking high level training and club tournament experience.  The goal of this program is to provide players the opportunity to train at a high level and participate in junior tournaments in Northern California at a reasonable cost.  Teams will be formed by way of a formal tryout process.  The teams will compete in either AAU sponsored tournament or through the Northern California region of USA Volleyball.  The season will begin February 7th

Teams: The teams are made up of motivated athletes competing in the 12 & under, 13 & under, and 14 & under age groups. Athletes on each team have a similar level of ability and the emphasis is on player development. Teams are generally comprised of 9 to 11 athletes. Since each team wants to compete at the highest level possible, the level of commitment required is high. Most teams will generally practice twice a week for 2.5 hours. Practices will be held on Thursday or Friday early evenings and Saturday mornings.

Membership dues for the team are $1000 for the season.  Membership dues include gym fees, instruction, tournament entry fees, coaches’ travel costs, uniforms, and AAU membership costs.

Our intentions are to field (1) 14-under team, (1) 13-under team, and (1) 12-under team.

The age restrictions for each division are as follows:

·         14 & under:  Athletes who were born on or after September 1, 1994 (primarily 8th graders)

·         13 & under:  Athletes who were born on or after September 1, 1995 (primarily 7th graders)

·         12 & under:  Athletes who were born on or after September 1, 1996 (primarily 6th graders)

Playing Time: Every player receives the same opportunities in practice to earn playing time.  Whether in game situations or practice, the coah is responsible for identifying the strongest line-ups, which means constant evaluation.  The opportunity to compete in game situations varies from team to team.   That being said, we do not make any assurances on the amount of playing time each player receives. The only assurances we give in regards to playing time is that each player will be given an opportunity to play on each day of a tournament as long as the player has not violated any of the policies or guidelines.

Participation in school sports: We believe that as long as an athlete decides to play a school sport, that sport comes first until the player decides otherwise. What we expect, however, is that the player will do everything possible to fulfill her commitment to us. That includes communicating with their school coaches and their club coaches to formulate some type of compromise that will allow the athlete to participate in both activities concurrently. There is no punishment for missing all or part of a practice or tournament, but that’s not to say that there are no consequences. When you miss an opportunity, it’s safe to say that you won’t improve. This affects performance, thus playing time.
