Sierra Nevada Volleyball Club: Welcome

VISION STATEMENT
Sierra Nevada Volleyball Club is dedicated to the promotion and development of girls volleyball in Northern Nevada. We believe in using volleyball as a vehicle to promote discipline, dedication, commitment and teamwork through programs ranging from beginning to very advanced levels of play. We are committed to assisting each athlete attain her personal goals, whether it is playing at the collegiate level or simply becoming a better volleyball player. Our primary goal is to build character and self-esteem through hard work and commitment while athletes learn the fundamental skills of volleyball, acquire knowledge of the game and given the opportunity, to compete at their highest potential.

PRIVATE INSTRUCTION

The Sierra Nevada Volleyball Club provides private instruction for both individuals and groups. Private instruction is for junior girls ages 9-18. Cost: Range from $40-$65 per hour based on instructor and needs for an individual. Small groups of 2 or 3 individuals are also considered. Minor Youth League for 5th & 6th Grade Girls News Update

The following are updates for the upcoming Youth Volleyball League:

There are several options for parking on Tuesday nights on the University campus.  Please be aware that parking is strictly enforced on the Nevada campus and if you park in any of the areas without the appropriate pass, you are parking there at your own risk.

  1. Brian J. Whalen Garage - This garage is located about 400 yards north of the Virginia St. Gym.  You may park on the top floor and purchase a 1 day pass each time.  The vending machine is located next to the elevators.
  2. Metered parking - you may park at any of the metered parking areas and pay the meters.
  3. Existing UNR Parking Pass - if you already possess a UNR Parking Pass, you may park in any of the areas near the gym after 5 pm.

Peak Performance Program for 6th-8th Grade Girls

Wanna sharpen your skills for the upcoming middle school tryouts and season?  How about looking for more of a challenge beyond our Youth Volleyball League?  Then this is the program for you.  This program is designed to provide players in the 6th-8th grade an opportunity to learn more advance skills and advance team concepts. The program is intended for intermediate to advance level players that have participated on their middle school team or have participated in our Youth Volleyball Leagues. The program will include skill training as well as team play.

When:  Friday evenings, from 5:30-7 pm and Saturday afternoons from 4-5:30 pm beginning Jan. 16th  through February 28th.

Where: University of Nevada, Virginia St. Gym

Cost: $225. Space limited to 40 players.

Club Bonsai

Club Bonsai is a development program intended to provide girls between the ages of 11-14 the opportunity to compete in various local tournaments sponsored by the Northern California Volleyball Association.  There are 3 age groups that Club Bonsai TRYS to field for competition, a 12-under team, a 13-under team, and a 14-under team.  Here are some of the details of the program:

  • There is a formal tryout process.  For the 2009 season, we anticipate holding tryouts the weekend of January 10th.  More details as we are given approval from our facilities coordinator.
  • We anticipate starting practices the week of January 19th.
  • Cost is approx. is $300 per month.  Includes training, gym rental, uniforms, and tournament entry fees.

Minor Youth Volleyball League for 5th & 6th Grade Girls

The 5th & 6th Grade Youth Volleyball League is for girls who want to get started in learning the sport of volleyball.  The focus of the program is to introduce the players to the basic skills of volleyball and introduce to them the concept of team play.  The league has changed its focus and has become more of a volunteer based program.  The program will have a director who will supervise and assist a group of volunteer parent coaches through the fundamental skills of volleyball and introduce the simple concepts of team play.  Formal games will be played.  To register, please click on the handout below. 

Who:  5th & 6th Grade Girls.  Space will be limited

Where:  Virginia St. Gym 

When:  November 18 - December 17, Tuesday evenings (5:30-6:45 pm) and Sunday afternoons (4-5:15 pm)

FALL 2008 MIGHTY MITES

The Mighty Mites Program is designed for 1st through 4th grade girls who want to get started in learning the sport of volleyball.  The focus of the program is to introduce the players to the basic skills of volleyball and the concepts of team play.  The emphasis of the skills portion will cover serving, passing, hitting, and setting.  The skills will be taught with step by step progressions.  Team play will introduce players in the concept of rotating positions and the pass, set, hit concept.  Instructors include members of the Sierra Nevada coaching staff as well as members of our travel team program. Fall 7th and 8th Grade Youth League Update

The following are updates for the upcoming Youth Volleyball League:

Sparks:  Due to registration numbers, we have decided to consolidate the league to one session, Wednesday from 6-7:15 pm and Sunday from 3-4:15 pm.  We plan on having 4 teams at this point in time.

Reno South:  Due to registration numbers, we have decided to consolidate the league to one session, Wednesday from 6-7:15 pm and Sunday from 4:15-5:30 pm.  We plan on having 4 teams at this point in time.

Reno Central:  The start and end date for this region has changed slightly.  The new start date for the season will be Sunday, September 28 and the last session will take place Sunday, November 16.  There will be no session on Tuesday, October 7th due to a Nevada Volleyball match against Sacramento St.  The session times have been consolidated due to registration numbers.  Tuesday will be 5:30-6:45 pm and Sunday from 4:15-5:30 pm.  PARKING ON TUESDAY EVENINGS - There are several options for parking on Tuesday nights on the University campus.  Please be aware that parking is strictly enforced on the Nevada campus and if you park in any of the areas without the appropriate pass, you are parking there at your own risk.
