Yankees Win Minor Championship

Last night, in probably one the most exciting games all season played by both teams, the Yankees took game #2 of the Minor Championship playoffs 2-1 over the Diamondbacks in extra innings.  Witnessed by an almost capacity crowd, both teams locked into a pitchers duel with Carson Ruggiero for the DBacks and James Donnelly for the Yankees.  The game remained scoreless through five innings until the Yankees broke through with a run in the top of the sixth.  The DBacks answered with their own run in the bottom of the inning, sending the game into extra frames.  The Yankees scored their second run in the top of the seventh inning on a steal of home by Zach Martinez.  Kyle Walker shut down the Dbacks in the bottom of the inning to secure the victory.  Both Carson Ruggiero and James Donnelly pitched a masterful game which has to be the best game of the season.  The Yankees are the 2009 SNLL Minor Baseball League Champions.  Hats off to the Diamondbacks for a very hard fought playoff series.

SNLL Announces Partnership with PCA

Stanton-Newport Little League is proud to announce its partnership with the Positive Coaches Alliance (PCA). Through its "Double Goal Coach" model, PCA provides training for managers and coaches using the philosophy of winning is one goal and teaching life lessions is the second, more important goal.  Since our league will also be adopting this philosophy, all our managers and coaches will be attending a mandatory PCA seminar to cover all aspects associated with the Double Goal Coach model.  Also, PCA provides online course associated with the program.  Please click on the following link for the partnership announcement:

SNLL Earns PCA's Seal of Commitment

Stanton-Newport Little League (SNLL) has earned the Positive Coaching Alliance Seal of Commitment for 2009. PCA bestows this prestigious national honor only upon youth sports organizations and schools that officially commit to providing youth athletes a positive, character-building experience by requiring every coach to be trained and certified as a Double-Goal CoachTM. “A Double-Goal Coach strives not only to win (goal #1), but also to use sports to teach life lessons,” said Jim Thompson, PCA’s founder and executive director. “Likewise, PCA’s Seal of Commitment helps ensure that Stanton-Newport Little League provides all of its youth athletes with a positive, character-building experience.”

Earning PCA’s Seal of Commitment reinforces our league's commitment to focus on the best interests of our players. It takes work to get coaches certified, but we owe it to the families participating in our programs to provide the best experience possible.

For a list of youth sports organizations nationwide that have earned PCA’s Seal of Commitment, please visit http://www.positivecoach.org/commitment.aspx.

SNLL Managers and Coaches Attend PCA Seminar
All our managers and coaches (and some other tagalongs like myself) attend the manatory PCA Double-Goal Coaches seminar held on March 14, 2009.  There was never a dull moment. Just remember the tennis ball.  Holly and Chuck throwing the giant dice.  Anyhow, the seminar was terrific and ephasized that not only should we concentrate on winning, but also as coaches, should be teaching life lessons to all our players.
