Profile: COACHING PHILOSOPHY

A coach’s action not only affects the person as a player but as an individual off the court as well. It is not just about playing a game, the game is the catalyst to discover how to overcome adversity and work as a team to achieve a goal. I believe everyone’s unique personality and skill is what makes a great team. We must learn to appreciate that uniqueness so that every player feels valued and an integral part of the team’s success. Practice is competition. You must practice hard and condition well if you are going to outlast and out work your opponent. That said you are also only as good as the weakest player on the day of competition. I must therefore create a relationship with my players so that I can push them harder than they will push themselves. I must respect my players so that they will respect and trust me. Finally, and most importantly, my players are someone else’s child. As a mother I want to treat my players in the same way I want my daughters treated.

“The key elements in the art of working together are how to deal with change, how to deal with conflict and how to reach our potential. The needs of the team are best met when we meet the needs of individual an individual person.” Max DePree
