VOLLEYBALL....FOR BOYS?
Volleyball is a girls sport. How many times have you heard that? I just calmly ask them if they want to get on the court with me, and dig a few balls. Most often the answer is no, then I tell them the girls can do it, and ask, "What's the problem"?
To a certain extent they are right though. Out here in the Northwest, volleyball has been “just a girls sport”. Boys are only exposed to it a couple times in a PE class or maybe at a church picnic, but for the most part it is only played by the girls. It isn’t considered a high school sport for boys and none of the colleges out here have men’s teams, so it is no wonder there has been very little opportunity for boys.
NEWS FLASH: Men’s volleyball is alive and well…everywhere but here, and we are going to do something about it. In case you haven’t been watching there has been a lot of men’s volleyball on TV. There are college teams all over the country and lots of opportunities for men to play. It just hasn’t happened here yet. That is all about to change.
Puget Sound Region USAV is working hard to develop boys’ volleyball and Viper Volleyball is going to be at the forefront in giving boys the opportunity to get in on the fun. We believe that like the rest of the country, boys’ volleyball is an epidemic waiting to happen. In every region that has introduced boy’s leagues, it has been a raging success. Once boy’s find out how challenging and competitive the game is they can’t stay away. Then they discover that there are scholarships out there and they can play in college and it becomes an obsession. What could be better, someone else pays for your college, while you get to play your passion.
OK, I’m getting a little ahead of myself. Guys, why should the girls have all the fun? This is a tough sport. In every other ball sport you throw and catch the ball. Not in volleyball, we play it off our fingers, our hands, and our arms in a multitude of ways. Oh yeah, we get to pound it too. Think it’s easy, come on out and give it a try. Have you ever watched your girls’ varsity team play, go ahead and try to figure out the rotations, better yet figure out why they are where they are?
Face it; they have been keeping a big fun secret from you. Volleyball is the most complex ball sport going and they have it all to themselves.
Viper Volleyball is looking for boys who are up to the challenge of the most difficult ball sport around. If you like a tough challenges, and good hard competition, look no further we have what you need…if you can handle it. Oh by the way, in case you hadn’t noticed, it’s where the girls are.
