There was hitting up and down the lineup. Aaron Headrick, J.R. Graham, Brian Budd and Chris Bohannan had several hits also.
David Rowse was dominating on the mound in his opening game start.
There was only one baserunner for Trombly Baseball on a walk and that player was then picked off first on the next pitch.
Aaron Headrick gets the start in game #2 against the host Orange County Renegades at 8:15 a.m. at Golden West College on Saturday.

WRITEUP FROM SO-CAL SUPERSERIES:
The 18U division had some teams from far and near as the California Smoke traveled down from Northern California and the Stanislaus Edge came in from Central California. Southern California was represented by four different counties with teams from Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. The action heated up early with the California Smoke coming out smokin' to go undefeated in pool play with a pretty good offensive showing. Meanwhile on the other side of the bracket the Upland Yankees were going undefeated themselves with some pretty good pitching supporting the cause. At the beginning of the championship round Irish Baseball and the Terminators started to make some noise early with some early wins but there was a feeling over the weekend that the early favorites to clash in the finals would be the Upland Yankees and the California Smoke. Being in the finals is nothing new to the very talented and well coached Yankees so the title tilt was nothing new to the Yankee crew. The Smoke rolled into the championship game undefeated and after all the smoke cleared the California smoked edged out the Yankees 3-1 to earn the tournament bragging rights and take the hardware back to Northern California. Congratulations to the California Smoke on a very well deserved Super Series Championship title. The top two teams in this earned berths to the Super Series Winter National Championships.

UOP Team Captain and former Smoke Captain Bobby Saunders. According to Coach Joel, "David is an incredible young man and is a great pickup for UOP. Smoke Heading to Yountville
The Oakland Smoke will be playing in the State Championships for American Legion beginning Saturday in Yountville. This is a true State Championship with Southern California, the San Joaquin Valley, Northern California and the Bay Area competing for the right to go on to the Western Regionals in Oregon. There are only six teams left in the entire state still playing Jr Legion baseball.
This Oakland Smoke team has been a true team effort. Not only have they won 34 games this season, but have beat some of the best teams in the area: Clayton Valley, Amador Valley and San Ramon Valley.
During this tourney, the pitching performances of Chris Cobb vs Clayton Valley and Rob Howard vs SRV (the Blacksox) were truly outstanding and allowed the Smoke to win 4 straight in the losers bracket after the opening loss to Palo Alto. The clutch hitting of Chris Steele, Rylan Sandoval, David Williams and Jason Huber helped the Smoke make this run. One cannot say enough of Justin Sterling's "sterling" performance this summer.
Danny McDaniel came through with some good hits and pitching when it was most needed and Niko Wahl cleared the fences with a game-over home run. Tim Amato, Ryan Moura and Deren Rehr-Davis each had games where they delivered key hits. TJ DiFrancesco who is injured has been a supportive member of our team on the bench. Brian Emanuele, Chris Perri, Kevin Ruma, Josh Bowen and Brian Dodson all contributed greatly to this outstanding season.
A never give up attitude was there from top to bottom. Coach Joel told the parents in the 7th inning, "it ain't over yet". He believed, the players believed, the parents believed and maybe even Amador Valley believed. A stranger, more inspirational comeback has not been seen in summer baseball with the entire postseason on the line.
I hope you all remember this day...it was one of the best ever....and prepare for a great opportunity in Yountville. It was a proud day for the Oakland Smoke.

Smoke Crush Clayton Valley
Behind the two-hit pitching of Tony Amato,
the Smoke demolished Clayton Valley 11-0 in a slaughter-rule shortened five inning game.
Defensive gems from Nick Meyers and Pat Mulshine highlighted the best performance of the summer by the Smoke.
Oakland Smoke Begins New Legion Season
The Oakland Smoke begins the 2002 Summer Season on June 6th. It looks to be a promising season as two of the Bay Area's hottest high school teams combine: Head-Royce (22 straight wins- Div A) and Bishop O'Dowd (9 wins in last 11 league games in Div 3A).
Senior Cameron Johnson returns to Smoke as its #1 ace pitcher. Matt Capell returns in his 3rd year on Smoke to the mound after playing mostly catcher at O'Dowd. Capell was the 2001 Smoke closer. Rounding out the pitching staff are Eric Walterhouse (#1 pitcher O'Dowd), Danny Balich (back from the DL), Stephen Flynn, Sean Hunter, Tony Amato, Nick Meyers, Sean Kennealy and Matt Palley.
The infield is led by Senior Smoke returner Stephen Flynn who will play 2nd and SS. Key additions to this years Smoke infield are Catcher Matt Fahey, one of the best young catching prospects in northern california and slick fielding SS Jesse Barnes. Eric Walterhouse, the 1st team All-League sophomore from O'Dowd, will play 1st base and pitch. Junior Pat Mulshine will solidify an already strong infield at 3rd base.
The outfield is anchored by Senior Nick Meyers, Dominic Ruma, Cameron Johnson and Matt Banks.
Young dynamic role players on this years team include Tommy Hanson, Matt Palley, Sean Kennealy and Tyson Ross.
De La Salle Players Add Strength to Smoke Roster

Is there any connection between the Smoke "S" and the team color green and the De La Salle Spartans? Coincidence or maybe not.

Smoke Beat Oaks in Battle of Oakland 16-7
After a 3-3 tie in the first game featuring the Connie Mack Oakland Smoke vs. the AAU Oakland Oaks, the Oakland Smoke fought back
from a 4 run first inning deficit with 15 hits to win 16-7. The turning point of the game was a perfect strike to the plate throw by Smoke outfielder Ken Evoniuk preventing the Oaks from building on the 4 run first inning. The hitting hero in this Cal Berkeley (Golden West) tourney game was Sam Geaney who went 4 for 4. Stephen Flynn and Bobby Saunders added 3 hits apiece. The Smoke now are in a position with 2 wins to win the tourney. Solid pitching by Matt McBride, Kevin Blanc, Jon Kelchner and Cameron Johnson in the 4 games have left the Smoke in a strong postion to go for the tourney title as they have many rested arm left.
