18 YEARS OF QUALITY BASEBALL

THE CALIFORNIA SMOKE WILL BE ADDING A 14U TEAM IN 2010!

SUMMER 2010-  18U CONNIE MACK

FALL 2010/SUMMER 2011- 14U TEAM ADDED**

FALL 2011/SUMMER 2012- 16U MICKEY MANTLE TEAM ADDED

** INFO WILL BE AVAILABLE BY SPRING TIME REGARDING TRYOUTS** Over our 18 years of running the 18U Smoke, we have fielded numerous requests to run younger age groups.  Starting in August 2010, we will add the 1st year 14U Smoke, a team made up of elite players of junior high age. We will put the same quality into this team that has put the 18U Smoke on the map.  The 14U team will have several practices a week and play in some quality tournaments. The 2011 summer home field will be a high school field and this team will also have the opportunity to play at Santa Clara University a couple times before the 18U games. The emphasis of the 14U team is preparation for high school baseball whereas the emphasis of our 18U team is preparation for collegiate baseball. In fall of 2011/Summer 2012, we will add a 16U Mickey Mantle team as a Varsity preparation team and potential feeder to the 18U Smoke club.

Smoke SS Kyle DeMerritt Accepts Santa Clara University Scholarship

Smoke SS Kyle DeMerritt (2010, Bellarmine)
Congratulations to Kyle DeMerritt on accepting a scholarship to Santa Clara University for the 2011 season.  Kyle has put up back to back excellent seasons in the top 3 batting averages for Smoke including this season where he led the Smoke with 34 runs scored and 30 RBI's to go along with his .353 batting average.  The Smoke have sent a player via scholarship to Santa Clara for three straight years.  These are comments from Coach JK on Kyle...." Kyle is the backbone of the Smoke.  He makes all the plays look easy and sometimes you just say wow, he is damn good.  He has batted both leadoff, 3rd and cleanup for the Smoke.  He gets on base or he drives runs in. Bottom line is, I want Kyle up with the game on the line.  He is a gamer.  He is a leader and a very devoted kid.  I went on record and stand behind it that Kyle is one of the best Smoke players ever."

Derek Rodrigues pitches Gem in Championship, Errors prevent win

The Smoke played well in all but 3 innings in the 4 game CCB tourney but one bad inning in the championship erased a 4-0 Smoke lead and the Smoke eventually lost 6-5 in extra innings.   Some great efforts besides Derek's pitching were recognized in the All tourney awards:
Top Pitcher of the Tourney: Cody Wong
Top Defensive Player: Nick Lynch
All tourney: Tyler Lanham, Kyle Macey and Jesse White

 HOME OF THE CALIFORNIA SMOKE

The California Smoke Baseball Club is pleased to announce that we will be playing our home schedule at Schott Stadium.

This will not only allow the Smoke to play baseball on one of the top collegiate fields in California, but provide great exposure to our players and our opponents. We want to thank the Santa Clara coaching staff and administration for allowing the Smoke to use their amazing complex as our baseball home.

Our 2010 schedule is now online. We consider our 2010 summer schedule quite challenging with one quarter of our schedule against JC filled 19u teams.

Kyle Macey Commits to UC Santa Barbara

Smoke CF Kyle Macey (2010, St. Francis)

Smoke CF Kyle Macey has made his verbal commitment to play baseball with UC Santa Barbara, joining 2008 Smoke player Ryan Palermo as a Gaucho.  Kyle is a very dedicated hard working player.  He batted almost .400 the 2nd half of last summer after sustaining a severe wrist injury.  Even though he was out for three weeks he attended almost all of the games to root on his teammates. Kyle has spent the majority of the season as the Smoke leadoff batter and is becoming a better baseball player each week.  He has the ability to play pretty much every position on the field and can even close out a game on the mound.  We expect Kyle to have an outstanding senior season for St. Francis.  Congratulations to a fantastic kid.

Smoke Take 3rd Place in Las Vegas Classic

The Smoke finished 4-2 over six games and finished in 3rd place in the 40 Team 18U bracket in Las Vegas.  The key games were the matchup between 2-0 teams where the Smoke stunned the Arizona Select with a 16-1 three inning slaughter rule defeat.  The best game was the quarterfinal win where the Smoke downed the 4-0 Washington Rijo team 4-3, coming back from deficits of 2-0, 3-2 only to pull out the win in the bottom of the 7th.  It was a great team effort and a fun weekend.

Smoke Cap: A Return to the Past

The California Smoke will be going retro in 2010 with a return to its roots with a solid color Navy cap with a block S for Smoke.  This will be worn with both the Navy/Gold jersey and the Dri-Fit Hot Weather jersey.  We will still have our classic white cap with the White California jersey.

In addition, each player will be given a Navy Bat Bag which is theirs to keep with the following:  1 Custom White Jersey with name on back, One Dri-Fit Jersey with name on back, One Navy team jersey, Underarmour, Navy Shorts, 2 caps, and a Smoke t-shirt.
