 HOME OF THE CALIFORNIA SMOKE

The California Smoke Baseball Club is pleased to announce that we will be playing our full home schedule at Schott Stadium*. Schott Stadium will come with full scoreboard usage and we will announce all our home night games.

The Smoke have a close relationship with Santa Clara and currently have five players on their 2010 roster and one player signed for 2011 whom have played for our club.  This signing will not only allow the Smoke to play baseball on one of the top collegiate fields in California, but provide great exposure to our players and our opponents. We want to thank the Santa Clara coaching staff and administration for allowing the Smoke to use their amazing complex as our baseball home.

Our tentative summer schedule is as follows:  14 Home Games, 18 Bay Area Away Games, 10 Local tournament games (Bay Area locations) and approximately 15 Out of Area Tournament games. We are inviting the best teams in Southern California/Arizona/Washington to play us at our home field along with the top Northern California opponents.

*Besides our 12 games at Santa Clara University we will play 2 games at University of San Francisco to continue an ongoing tradition.   The Smoke play all home games at Division I collegiate fields.

Smoke Take 3rd Place in Las Vegas Classic

The Smoke finished 4-2 over six games and finished in 3rd place in the 40 Team 18U bracket in Las Vegas.  The key games were the matchup between 2-0 teams where the Smoke stunned the Arizona Select with a 16-1 three inning slaughter rule defeat.  The best game was the quarterfinal win where the Smoke downed the 4-0 Washington Rijo team 4-3, coming back from deficits of 2-0, 3-2 only to pull out the win in the bottom of the 7th.  It was a great team effort and a fun weekend.

Kyle Macey Commits to UC Santa Barbara

Smoke CF Kyle Macey (2010, St. Francis)

Smoke CF Kyle Macey has made his verbal commitment to play baseball with UC Santa Barbara, joining 2008 Smoke player Ryan Palermo as a Gaucho.  Kyle is a very dedicated hard working player.  He batted almost .400 the 2nd half of last summer after sustaining a severe wrist injury.  Even though he was out for three weeks he attended almost all of the games to root on his teammates. Kyle has spent the majority of the season as the Smoke leadoff batter and is becoming a better baseball player each week.  He has the ability to play pretty much every position on the field and can even close out a game on the mound.  We expect Kyle to have an outstanding senior season for St. Francis.  Congratulations to a fantastic kid.

Derek Rodrigues pitches Gem in Championship, Errors prevent win

The Smoke played well in all but 3 innings in the 4 game CCB tourney but one bad inning in the championship erased a 4-0 Smoke lead and the Smoke eventually lost 6-5 in extra innings.   Some great efforts besides Derek's pitching were recognized in the All tourney awards:
Top Pitcher of the Tourney: Cody Wong
Top Defensive Player: Nick Lynch
All tourney: Tyler Lanham, Kyle Macey and Jesse White

Smoke SS Kyle DeMerritt Accepts Santa Clara University Scholarship

Demerritt09
Smoke SS Kyle DeMerritt (2010, Bellarmine)
Congratulations to Kyle DeMerritt on accepting a scholarship to Santa Clara University for the 2011 season.  Kyle has put up back to back excellent seasons in the top 3 batting averages for Smoke including this season where he led the Smoke with 34 runs scored and 30 RBI's to go along with his .353 batting average.  The Smoke have sent a player via scholarship to Santa Clara for three straight years.  These are comments from Coach JK on Kyle...." Kyle is the backbone of the Smoke.  He makes all the plays look easy and sometimes you just say wow, he is damn good.  He has batted both leadoff, 3rd and cleanup for the Smoke.  He gets on base or he drives runs in. Bottom line is, I want Kyle up with the game on the line.  He is a gamer.  He is a leader and a very devoted kid.  I went on record and stand behind it that Kyle is one of the best Smoke players ever."
