Our CYO Sports program continues to grow as the SMM Parish Grows. The success of our program depends on the coaches who dedicate their time and talents to our children. However, with each new school year comes the task of finding and filling coaching positions. To insure we have a sufficient number of coaches, the CYO Board begins the selection process in the Spring for the following school year. The CYO Bylaws require all prospective coaches to submit an application which must be approved by the Board. In the event that more than one individual applies to coach a particular team, a vote is taken at the board's June Meeting. The coaching applications are available on line at www.eteamz.com/smmcyo Kindly click on hand outs to obtain your copy of the application. All coaching applications must be returned by MAY 14, 2008!! Thursday, September 21 Annual CYO Golf Tournament on Thursday 10/5 @ 1PM SUPPORT our CYO Fundraiser! To get registration form, click on HANDOUTS tab on left border of this webpage. It is time again for the annual St. Mary Magdalen CYO golf tournament! This year's classic is set to tee off on Thursday, October 5th at 1PM on the friendly confines of the Edgmont Country Club. This event is the primary fund raising event for the St. Mary Magdalen CYO. All proceeds will be used to benefit our children's sport teams and activities that go on throughout the year. The proceeds from last year's tournament help to fund the purchase of new uniforms for our field hockey, lacrosse and basketball teams. It also allowed us to start and equip a new sport team, the girl's JV softball team. The St. Mary Magdalen CYO has grown to field over thirty teams in ten different sports! As part of the program, the children participate in the parish's stewardship mission. Some of our teams' projects included providing food and service at the City Team Mission, sending gifts to the children of Iraq ,and making gift kits for our Soldiers overseas. The format of this year's tournament will remain a Modified "Texas" Scramble where each golfer plays their own ball after the Team Drive. The two "best" balls of the team will being added together for the team's score. Each player will still have to contribute two drives. We will have a "longest drive" and "closest to the pin" holes. Once again, there will be the opportunity to "Beat the Chief", playing against Father Chieffo on one hole for a prize. A foursome team game called "Money Ball" will be offered. In an effort to make everyone feel at home, Mulligans will be available - for a price. As in earlier years, a lunch, range privileges and a refreshment cart will be available. Our hostess, Pam Mariani, has planned a special menu for the Awards Banquet. A Raffle and Live Auction will top off the evening! We hope you will join us in this fun filled event! Please invite your friends, family and business associates. If you are unable to attend, but would like to contribute to the success of the CYO's Fund Raiser, we are in need of hole sponsors and are looking for gifts, tickets and prizes for our auction/raffle. Sincerely, Joe Malloy and Pat McGovern The Saint Mary Magdalen Catholic Youth Organization

Coaches Must Attend Archdiocese's Safe Enviroment Training The Archdiocese of Philadelphia requires that any person coming into contact with the youth of the diocese in any program MUST attend a certified program about child abuse. All of the coaches of the St. Mary Magdalen CYO, head and assistant, are required to attend this program. The Archdioceses participates in a national program of training sessions, the Safe Enviroment Training. These sessions are held at various parishes and one must preregister for the program. These sessions fill up very quickly! To register, one must do this on-line at VIRTUS.org. You must log-on to register and to see what sites are available. To log-on the password, TRUST, must be used to get in initially. The local programs available as of today are 9/13 - St. Joe's, Aston, 9/23 Sts. Peter &Paul, W. Chester, 9/30 St. Dots., 10/4 St. Thomas, Rosemont, 10/9 Sts, Phil & James, Exton, 10/14 St. Pats, Malvern, and 10/26 St. Bernadette's. I believe these all start at 7PM and will last 2-3 hours. At the end of the session, one will be provided a certificate which has to be filed in the parish office by our Athletic Director. |
